It will soon be time for the next foray onto waters unknown, 2 1/2 weeks to be precise, what pubs can people recommend to visit along the trent and tributaries, anywhere with good food/beer/moorings and a late running bar would be even better  , I've visited most options along the witham so have a few ideas for that bit but once out of torksey we'll be on new ground.

Well it floats again and made it to st.ives and back so looking good, starboard drive still lifts in reverse occaisionally but not sure why, may get a cable tie fix till winter layup and investigate further then.

WooHoo! Insurance claim accepted and no waiting around for an assesor to look at it so once the parts arrive it'll be bobbing within a day, unfortunately I've only just got the go-ahead, if they'd contacted me before lunch time I could have ordered the bits for delivery tommorow guess it'll have to get done next weekend.
It's still £2000 I don't have to fork out...

Similar prob with a mates Binliner who trashed the sterndrive on a shopping trolley - Insurance paid out £800 for a £200 self repair.....

This is all assuming Leo is up to the run, we took it out of the water yesterday to change the reversing catches and steering ball to find one swivel fork completely in two and the other badly cracked along with bent steering arms, it didn't feel like it took that much of a battering, had we known the extent of the fork damage we wouldn't have come back over the wash with it as the one in two bits was the one that still reversed It was very lucky that it was such a calm day.
I've got the report from the marina and it's looking like a £2k job to do it properly through insurance, they don't accept straightening stuff like normal people do they, once the claim is appoved it should only take a few hours to put it back together but can't order parts till they approve

We'd be aiming to leave denver sunday 28th around 7.30-8.30am getting in to wells 5.00-5.30pm or monday 29th around 8.00-9.00am getting in to wells 5.30-6.00pm depending on weather conditions, I'm sure we could put you up for a night or two if needed, I'd offer for the trip back as well but we're not yet sure what we're up to yet, I fancy doing a night in either burnham or brancaster on the way back which will involve an anchor and sitting on the sand for part of the night (not done it before), I've put wheels on the dinghy so we can still get to the pub and back at low water without doing my back in dragging it across the beach or ripping the bottom out.
As long as he knows in advance the denver lockie is quite good about leaving cars in his carpark, it's a lot more secure than the public one.
The run back up the tidal gt.ouse will be a fast one as theres a 7.4 metre tidal range on the thursday, gotta be worth an extra 4+ knots

Thats sounds fantastic - will have to look into the logistics of it all.
Chez is now scared I may get the Salty Stuff bug ! (I think she's more scared of the 40min walk personally )
Glad to here you made it back ok without any major probs , its a liitle different breaking down when you cant reach the bankside !
How long is the Sea trip to Wells ? Would we need to overnight in a B&B either side of the trip ?, its about a 2hr drive to Downham / Denver for us

Hopefully going to wells again august bank holiday week Adi if you fancy a trip out, they have a coasthopper bus that goes to kings lynn where you can always get a train back to downham market (station has a nice bar) and is a 40 minute walk down the flood bank to denver sluice (the starting point).
We saw about 9 sewer tubes crossing the wash, they had a pilot from wisbechistan to boston, a strange sight to see all in a row out at sea indeed, luckily for them it was flatter than a very flat thing, I think they wait around for the weather for quite long periods.

Once again , Dave you have me jealous at yr Salty excursions !
Not worked it out if possible, but if you & Ali do have a 1 day Sea trip that is possible we would love to join you (Even contributing to fuel ) would make our own way back to the car . Have to say I'm looking for a bigger rush than the Tidal thames thru London in a Sewer tube !

At low water the tidal witham is anything but attractive, full of sunken boats and all the usual trolleys/bikes/remains of old jetties, it's a complete sh*thole!
Steering seems to be hanging on so far, sitting by the tide gauge after the smoothest run we've ever had on the wash, we have 4 ouse valley river club boats acrossthe channel for company too, saw them on their way out about 6 weeks ago, just typical to meet up again at boston, maybe it was their vodka supply that went in smoke...

On the subject of polish they say you can't polish a turd, so how come I have a shiny head????
I have some piccies of grand sluice and loads of piccies of the tidal bit at low water, it seems we hit a pile of random debris chucked from a bridge on the way in and not a wreck at all, the bike has since been washed away!
I recon the steering joint was probably cracked at the same time the reversing catch went but hung on for the week.

Well I've known Dave to be Fat & Drunk , but never known him to Polish anything....
Ahhhhh.. POLISH !!! , Yes well known in Boston , last time we came thru Stamp End everyone had an eastern European accent & a spinning rod !
Reminds me of a trip recently to Morrisons - A local said Polish Bread ? Why do they call it that , its not even shiny ! I have to say I had trouble keeping quiet !

Apparenty lots of business's have been raided around here lately for counterfeit vodka sales, it would seem the source has shown itself by accident, we had to visit 3 pubs to fnd out this info so I hope you all appreciate our selfless act of intelligence gathering!
Steering fixed (ish) by local bodging shop, he charged me a fiver!! So I gave him a tenner, nobody does anything for a fiver these days FFS! I just hope his welding is ok...

I can describe boston is 2 words, fat & polish, sorry 3, fat & polish & drunk! I've never seen so many people wandering around a town before noon clutching eastern european beer cans, makes us feel teetotal, now thats scary!
