Had a trip from Huddersfield to Dewsbury and on the way back met a couple on a narrowboat and decided to share locks.I was a bit apprehensive but the first three locks went smoothly.Grp boat so last in and first out.Fourth lock (going uphill)boat owner's wife and me were filling the lock when we hear
quote:

d a shout.Looking into the lock, the bow of the narrowboat was raised up a couple of feet and my Norman looked as though it was being rolled up the lock wall. Before we got to the paddles there was a loud bang and both boats dropped into the lock.
The crook on the tiller of the narrow boat had got caught under the lock gate walkway, and the loud bang was a chunk of it breaking off.
Decided not to share a lock with a narrowboat again.
