Two days of rain, everything soaked,no problem I thought the heater will dry my clothes overnight.
Just when most needed it wouldn't fire up,display shows error code E10.
The handbook only goes up to E8.
I suspect the glowplug as the fan goes and the fuel pump, but it's not firing up.
Anyone know what E10 error code is?

Yes Clive, the Chinaspachers do need a few modifications to ensure a BSS pass, but nothing too difficult.
Having got used to having a heater,I wouldn't be without one now,not only in winter but even in summer there are some chilly evenings and mornings. It's nice to warm the cabin up for an hour before turning in,and again in the morning for a "budgie wash",the other benefit of blown air heaters is much reduced or no internal condensation, especially on rainy nights.

I fitted a 5kw s/h 12v Eber into my Ocean. It came out of a GPO work van so had nothing suitable for marine use and BSS. So - copper tube replaced the plastic pump feed pipe - easy fix and not expensive, drilled the tank and put in a proprietary diesel pick up to feed the pump. The spigots on the pump accept little compression fittings quite happily as does the inlet on the heater.

The exhaust was home-made, one inch (28mm) compression fittings and copper tube connected to the short stub pipe exhaust outlet by slitting the end of the copper tube and using the original clamp to the heater to clamp it on. The copper tube exhaust pipe to outside I connected to a home-made isolating skin fitting copied from the Eber one and made from a stainless steel plate with a piece of 1 inch tube secured in the middle by 3 strips of stainless steel creating a decent air-gap between my grp hull and the exhaust pipe. Then lagged the lot with loads of glass cloth insulating tape wrapped and then wired on.

The ducting fed 3 cabins and was plastic convoluted pipe and home-made sheet metal plenum chambers and shop-bought grills, the main cabin having floor grills with the ducting run below the flooring.

The entire installation passed BSS inspections regularly and only once needed a service - I sent it to Thames Valley Electro Diesel for repair. The cost of the entire installation was very reasonable being some material, and the second hand unit and it kept us warm through many a winter's night.

Finally living the dream!

So error code 10 is "someone's pi55ed in your exhaust", that's handy to know.....
Good to hear it's a cheap fix, I gotta say if (when) my eber gives up I'll be going down the chinaspacher route.

Tom,the facebook page includes Australia and NZ,so a lot of members.
I suspect that a lot of problems are caused by poor quality installation. There are three boats moored close to me with Chinaspachers and none have reported problems.
If you need any hints on fitting, just ask.
A point worth mentioning is that whatever price your heater costs, you can double it when you have bought the hull fittings, the longer exhaust and inlet pipes,(the ones supplied are never long enough)suitable wiring and a switch plus the clips that come with the kit are rubbish.

Took the covers off the heater, all looked ok apart from the glow plug being loose.that could account for diesel vapour being blown into the cabin leaking out of the combustion chamber into the blown air passage.Doesn't account for it not firing up though untill I took the combustion air inlet and the exhaust.
The air inlet was clear, but when remocing the exhaust, about a cupful of filthy smelly water ran out.Don't think rainwater can get in,or perhaps moisture from combustion because the exhaust gets so hot I'm sure small amounts of water will evaporate.
Coming from Marsden last week (only 42 locks)some of the brickwork in a couple of locks piddled jets of water out while being emptied.I think this is how the water got in.Something I need to be aware of in future.
Put the heater back together and it worked as advertised.#128515;
Tom,I have heard of a few duff Chinese heaters, the design is quite sound (I have heard they are a Chinese copy of a Russian copy of an Eberspacher) I can believe this as the handbook makes no sense at all.Probably translated from German,to Russian, to Chinese, to English.
My heater has worked perfectly well for the two and a half years it has been fitted and the only problem was the one described, and is now working fine.

I'd love some heating on the boat but one of the things that put me off these heaters was the discovery that there's a FaceBook group for people who have problems with them or need spares - and it has 52,000 members.
df Posted - 05 Jul 2021 : 21:21:24
If you can get an identical unit you will have a whole load of spares too, and all for the cost of a pump for an eberspacher(probably less).
I have heard through other forums that there's a faceache group for those things but don't dabble there myself.
If you split the burner unit to check it I don't fancy your chances of getting a gasket for it and wouldn't fancy a homemade one unless cut from a thin copper sheet or similar.

Just looked on e bay,and the cheapest I have seen is £75 for the whole package.
As the fuel tank and piping plus the exhaust and inlet and wiring are already in place,if it's going to be a complex job to fix it,I'd probably be better to scrap it and buy a new one.
It's b2een perfectly ok for two and a half years,so a new one may save a load of bother.

With fumes blown into the cabin I'd want to pull it apart and see why, the diesel burner side should be completely seperate from the heat side.

Quite right, but a blocked exhaust and the combustion chamber full of diesel vapour could conceivably overpower the combustion chamber vanes and then be blown into the cabin by the heater fan.
I will give it a good dose of looking at tomorrow and report back.

Diesel vapour shouldn't be anywhere near the hot air outlet.

Thanks for the quick reply.A blocked exhaust (or inlet) makes sense.
The heater fan starts and the fuel pump starts pulsing and diesel vapour is blown into the cabin which is a bit worrying but no ignition.
Ordered a new glowplug (they are only a tenner) and when I have dried out I will check the exhaust and inlet.
trickyblue Posted - 05 Jul 2021 : 14:14:11
Try checking exhaust not blocked.
Also it could apparently indicate air in fuel line and need purging.
