Two weeks ago I was looking through the local paper for computer parts and out of the corner of my eye I caught an advert for a Norman canal cruiser without really looking at the boating column the second time of noticing was more than just fate. Several telephone calls later and destiny took its toll. A meeting had been arranged at the festival park marina and I was wondering if I was still sane or not. What are you going to do with it, where are you going to put it came the questions from my better half. Without having any answers to the questions a price was agreed, £400. Obviously this boat needs some serious work doing for this price and some form of propulsion as some pirate had previously robbed the Honda outboard. The canopy had been left off for all the british weather to take its toll but she was still afloat.
"Right now you have bought it what are your plans", plans what plans, I didn't have any.Picking the local LOOT up I noticed a trailer for sale for £550.00, during the telephone conversation it came out that the person selling had 2 Normans and he had transported his 22 foot Norman on this.Booking a day off work I decided to go and have a look at the trailer and if ok to collect the boat from the marina and bring it home to do the work needed. Off to Wigan we set off arriving at 11.30 a.m. a quick look around the trailer sellers Norman and off we set with trailer behind and deal done, now heading to Stoke to collect the ENCHANTRES from out of the marina , arriving home with her on the trailer at 3.15 pm to astonished looks from the neighbours and quips about were we expecting bad weather and of course the animals two by two.
Anyway now the work starts and the hunting for parts and I am still wondering why I ever bothered and what was the attraction, is there something in a name and how was I enchanted without even seeing the boat before, is there something in a name ?
