Orthotics assessment and supply service.

Making your life better

About me!

I am Alison Shearing.

Qualifying from Strathclyde University with a Higher Diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1982 (at that time, the only professional qualification available in the subject).

I am a fully qualified Senior Orthotist with over 35 years experience within the NHS and private sectors, covering the full spectrum of orthotic supply. Working closely with colleagues in orthopaedics, physiotherapy (MSK and Neuro specialities), podiatry (community and diabetic specialists) and general surgery/ medicine, as part of these multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

As a profession, Orthotics has been encouraged to developed a holistic approach to treating patients. I find that looking at the "whole person" tends to improve the patients experience, satisfaction and overall outcome.

Orthotists are a specialist profession trained to consider our patients current ability , strength, weaknesses, mobility and health conditions. To provide advice and orthoses (also known as, braces, supports, splints or surgical appliances) to improve their function and comfort, while also improving their safety and reducing further deterioration of their condition(s).

My aim is to improve your life by reducing your discomfort and pain, by improving the way your body functions, using orthoses.

To do this I will perform a full assessment of your current level of function.

Discuss with you your aims and what you want to achieve, and how we are going to achieve this.

I can treat anything from sore/ painful feet or knees to sports injuries, spinal injuries, CP, strokes, hernias, any problem that reduces your ability to physically function to your full potential.
