Hi all, Having been caught out by Ethanol, and currently stripping down the carb, I'm stabilizing my fuel from now on. Damn lockdown. Anyway, I'm thinking of starting the outboard, disconnecting the fuel line, and letting the engine run out of fuel before winter storage. Is this a bad idea or good? Not sure?
I'm also fitting a fuel/water separator, hopefully to catch any moisture before reaching the carb in future. Will be grateful for any advise.

Best to allow to run out then drain the float bowl, there's usually a drain screw on the bowl itself.
I always drain my dinghy outboard when stowing as it could be months before next use.

On my little suzuki the float bowl drain spigot is inside the lower cowling 'sort of near' a drain hole but not inline so I put a short bit of clear pipe just to direct it out to stop the fuel leaving gunge inside the cowling, I store mine either in the engine bay or lazarette when not in use so didn't want the petrol smell through the boat.
