Hi. Today is my first day as a member of this forum. I am wodering if anybody has come up with any device or piece of equipment to stop geese & ducks sh****ing on their canopies? We invested in a new canopy for our Norman 23 last year. We managed to get to the moorings yesterday (1st chance since Lockdown) to find the canopy is covered with poop! Looks like the wildlife has been making the most of the absence of humans. Any ideas welcomed please. What works? or what to avoid .....

Hungry eastern europeans?
Welcome to the nuthouse!
Some have spinning gadgets on the roofs of boats that use the wind, some use plastic birds of prey.

Hi, not sure how to stop the sh1* but I recently placed a post looking for a new canopy for my Norman 23. I'd be grateful for any details on where you purchased your canopy last year, and at what price?

Put a packet of Paxo Stuffing mix on the roof and a Happy Christmas sign and the geese will be sure to go elsewhere!

Failing that - a few plastic milk bottles filled with water and tied to a cheap tarpaulin over the boat when you leave it and accept that birds will be birds.

A useful deck-wash pump can be made out of a bilge-pump with a hose attached dropped over the side on a rope and clipped to the battery and you can easily wash off the boat in minutes while the engine warms up (and charges the battery).

My previous Ocean 30 on her Winter mooring.

Finally living the dream!

Our boat is on the Norfolk Broads. We used Jeckells, located in Wroxham http://jeckells.net/
They came highly recommended. They sent a member of staff out to measure for a new canopy & hatch cover. Must say we were very impressed both with the service & the quality of the product. Very robust conpared to our old canopy.
It wasn't particularly cheap. It cost around £1100 with 'winter discount'. But - we thouroughly recommend them & would use them agin..... in fact we DID use them again as I lost the new hatch cover over the side on a very windy day! I rang Jeckells & they had kept the measurements of the first one, so they made another for £40.
Guess it depends on where your boat is located?
Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Love the Paxo idea!
Great idea also to hang water filled plastic bottles from a tarp. Will give that a try.
Love the photo.
Cheers!

Short of using a 12 bore, don't think there's a great deal you can do about it

Thanks Magic for the info on a new canopy. Sadly, I'm in the West country, so I'm still looking for a company closer to home.
Many thanks,
Dave F.
