Just done the first oil change on my new Tohatsu outboard. Engine oil is specified as FC-W,10-30/40 which it got. Gearbox oil is specified as EP 80/90. On draining the gearbox the oil that came out was blue, and as I hadn't seen that before,I sent an e mail to the people who supplied and fitted the engine for the last owner querying this. The reply was a gentle bollocking as the servicing is supposed to be done by a Tohatsu agent and I have probably invalidated the warranty. Also as the engine is still registersd to the previous owner in the event of the engine being stolen there could be problems.(I only queried the type of gearbox oil) They did go on to say that the reccomended oil is Quicksilver which is blue at £22 a litre. This is cheaper than a lot of internet suppliers, but EP90 was only £6-99 ! Anyone know if this blue Quicksilver oil is superior to bog standard EP90,or am I being fed bullshine? |
