Tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) I'll be heading off to drive the 50 miles or so to my Norman 23's current marina. I'll take a little cruise up and down a bit of the Grand Union (my first ever trip in a boat of my own) to get the feel of it, then return to the marina, to sleep on the boat. Early Monday morning it'll be a 2-mile run North to another marina, where I'll meet a crane to lift my boat out and a lorry to transport it 55 miles to its new home, where another crane will be waiting to put it back in. A brisk walk back along the canal to the first marina to pick up my car, and I'll follow on. Once I get it back in the water and on its new mooring, I'll feel that it's mine, all mine. A nervous but exciting day ahead.

Not ready to set off yet, but at 07.30 this morning I was out scraping ice off the car windscreen. But it's a lovely day here today. Clear skies and the sun's shining. I hope it's going to be a bit warmer tonight.

All going well now the tick over problem is sorted. Had a little cruise without hitting anything. Moored up again and the boat is staying where I put it. Sat and watched the swans in the sunset. It's cold in the cabin but I'm nice and warm in my thermals and 4 seasons sleeping-bag, reading the forum posts. Got the craning to look forward to in the morning.

All in all, the craning in/out day went well. I achieved all I was hoping for but also got something I hadn't bargained for. I got the engine started second pull this morning, and did the 2 miles to the nearby marina for craning out. Craning got off to a late start because of a 2-hour delay caused by the motorway closure on the M6, but all done in the end.
The crane man who lifted the boat out even got his wife to come out in the car to pick me up to save me the 2 mile walk back to Ventnor Marina to pick up my own car.

My drive to our new home marina took longer than expected - M6 still closed - and when I got there, the boat had been craned in and moored on its Jetty by the lads at the marina. I'm "4 doors away" from forum member Jud, who also has a Norman 23 but haven't met him yet.

Last thing to do was a bit of a World Wresting Federation workout putting the canopy back up and THEN......

That's when I noticed the big, deep, 10-inch long gouge right along the centre of one side of my pristine hull. That's something for me to follow up in the morning. Somebody told me how it happened, and I have high resolution photos of the boat after it came out of the water, with no mark on that side of the hull.

Hi Tom, sorry I couldn't be there on monday for the launch, etc. but I
had to renew my IPAF license in West Bromwich and didn't get back in time for it.
If you let me know when you're going to the boat I'll try to be there.
My phone number is 07970712439.
See you soon,
Jud.
