Does anyone know if I can leave the pull start rope in situe even if it is electric start?

Yes you can and you can even use it if you choose.

If it came in a separate bag then no you can't, the mariner I had came with a pull cord but it was only for emergency use and I think you just wrapped it around the top and it pulled off when you used it other wise it would spin around with the engine, it was not a recoil type setup.
If it is a recoil setup with pull cord that is outside the cowling then yes you can.

Stick with the Japanese. My Honda 15 has the electric, Recoil and emergency wind round start. To be honest i thought they were all the same.

Depending on year the mariners are almost japanese, they did a lot with yamaha.
