Hi all, hope everyone is well. Anyway I'm now the owner my grandads "old Norman" it's been sat for 20 years?? Since he bought his narrow boat. He has kindly after much nagging let me have her. So this summer will be non stop work after my normal job to get her shiny and new again. Does anyone have any tips, suppliers of parts etc they can recommend?
Welcome to the nuthouse Stu, what length is it? Inboard or outboard? What engine? Any piccies? Most tips and suggestions will be forthcoming but we will need to know what bits you are working on, the more info we have the more info we can give. The main tip is to get it usable first and use it over summer, a crappy looking boat moored outside a pub is better than a nearly perfect boat that never goes anywhere and it's easy to get bored and give up when it's all work and no play which is why there are so many abandoned projects rotting in the corners of marinas, get it out on the river and enjoy...
I agree with DF. Took me 5 years to fully restore my 32. First and only time its been out had the prop smashed because the canal was to shallow. 2 days holiday. Its now back in my barn and I don,t know if I will ever take it out again
I know its frustrating Bob, I've gone through similar. After the anger and bile settles I still love being afloat. Five years for one trip? Give it another chance and you will realise what the five years was for!
Trevork we will see what happens I have taken the CRT to court because of all their lies. If I win I just might try again. Do you believe hire company’s are frightened to complain because the CRT would not issue them licences and put them out of business.
