I'm just in the middle of doing this very job, but on my Norman 23.

I was told (by someone on this site!) that WD40) helps to remove sealant, so I sprayed WD40 around all the frames and little 8 mm bolts situated around the inside window frame, left them for a an hour or two and then undid them all on the inside. I then used a screw driver to poke all the screws out. A couple of them just snapped off because they were so rusty, but the rest came out okay. I then got a paint scraper and gently hammered it down the back of the window sill on the outside of the boat, to separate it from the body of the boat. I had to pretty much do this the whole way round the edge of the window and then sprayed more WD40 into the space, then start gently prizing the frame out.

Once i had prized the top of the frame out I was able to lift all the glass pieces out (both fixed and sliding glass panels) so that I was just left to deal with trying to extract the bottom of the frame.

It took me about 30 mins to prize it the whole thing out. I then ventured into the boat to find that the interior frame was still siliconed against the inside edge, so again, I WD40'd it and used the scrapper to remove it. I've cleaned up the copious amount of old silicone/putty and am almost ready to put it back in. I'll let you know how that goes!

Paint scrapers... Stanley knives and perseverance is the only way.

Just a heads up to everyone..... Sikaflex is a GLUE.... and a very sticky efficient one at that..... It should NEVER be used as a sealant where there is any chance of it ever needing to come apart. [/rant]

If it really is Sikaflex then I have no idea how to shift it. That stuff is what you use when you really don't want anything to shift it so I guess you just have to cut it away as best you can and use some measure violence.

However, if it is just silicone type stuff then you can get silicone eater which may help. Example:
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Adhesives+%26+Sealants/d180/General+Sealants/sd2350/Silicone+Eater/p45066

Alternatively, if the windows are sealed shut and do not leak then you may want to consider leaving them like that!

I had it all over my windows. Took me a full day to take the window out and clean all the crap out of the frame. I used LOTS of WD40 to soften it, a stanley knife, a scouring pad and a cheese grater type thing that I found in wickes! (great for grating off the larger lumps) I had to replace one of the fixed glass pieces but managed to get one cut just up the road.
Then took me another full day to clean around the fibreglass opening on the boat. I was told by some at my boat yard to put it back in using sikaflex, but I took advice from this forum and used Arbomast instead. It then took me the best part of day to get the screws and bolts back in. I had to do a lot of jiggery pockery trying to line the holes up which ended up being the hardest part of the whole job. All in all it wasn't as difficult as i thought It would be. I just needed a hand from a passing gentleman to lift it onto my little platform whilst trying to stop it all falling apart.
I've had the hose pipe on her and happy to report no leaks. Arbmast seems to have done the job - although I'm still trying to get it out of my hair lol

Pictures please, we don't go in for joined-up writing, even pilots aren't expected to know that and have instructions in a picture book on how to kick-start a 747 etc.

And if you believe all that twaddle....................?

Clive, why is your missus taking photo's of the back of your head?
Jojo, it looks like you're playing a blinder with those windows.
Well impressed,
Jud.

Thanks Jud, I only meant to give it a bit of a tidy up after buying it, but found myself going a little bit demolition crazy . . . eeeeekkkkkkk

Clive my name is Jo or JoJo (short for Joanne)
Speaking of names, I'm going to change the name of my boat.

Any elaborate rituals required?

Also for Trevork - stupid is as stupid does I guess, I did wonder about the "JoJo" but best to ask I thought.

Jo - rituals are for the superstitious and I'm not. A Christian yes, not the same thing! So get your nice computer-cut vinyl name and mark where you want it to go, spray the area with washing-up liquid in water, apply vinyl and slide into position, squeegee excess soapy water out with a credit card or similar, carefully peel away top paper, and leave to dry. Within an hour or so the sticky-back plastic will be firmly stuck.

Then put the kettle on and celebrate your boat!

I was actually feeding the elephant with turnips as we walked, they love them, and it was putting it's head up and curling trunk over to me - that's what she was photographing.

Earlier I was playing with the cat!

But before that we had to feed the kids!

No Health and Safety idiots here to spoil our fun!
