Hi everyone, Im thinking of having a change from my Heck to Ripon via Selby and going up the Derwent through Barmby on the ouse to Stamford Bridge. I will still be going via Selby. Questions are ,1 are there any 48 hr Moorings and 2 are there any stations for water etc. I dont fancy the Pocklington Canal section, (weeds). I have done the whole route via Google Earth and also trawled the net and it dont look visitor freindly. Me the wife and dog aboard jacob a Norman 27.Regards Philihun.

Thanks mate, I did read that and found it an excellent blog. Bad news is i have been in touch with the Locky at Barmby and the Derwent is closed at Sutton Lock and has been for a Good while. Therefore all the boats that moored past the lock escaped down to Breighton before getting trapped, ie all the moorings are gone. He also said the Pocklington canal section is iffy due to weed build up and not good for outboards. Never mind im thinking of the Chesterfield Canal down to Worksop. Any probs on the trent for a Norman with a Honda 15. Regards Philihun.

You should be fine on the trent as long as you time trips to run with the tide, once past cromwell theres not to much problems, I've seen a couple of small boats with 10hp run down from naburn to trent falls and wait till the tide builds enough to run up to torksey.

Thanks for that. Phoned the Locky at Keadby and been told going out at about Mid-Day Friday. Time sounds good to me. Travel down to Keadby the day before from Heck and overnight at the Lock. I was quite confident as iv'e done the Ouse quite a bit in fast flowing and had a fair bit in hand getting back into Selby. Regards Philihun.

Sorry for the late replies . Just back from Heck to Worksop. The Trent from Keadby to Stockwith and back was flat calm and well behaved and the Chesterfield canal is beautiful but shallow and very weedy in places and trust me if your Norman is more than 6ft 10 wide and 7 ft high you will not get through the locks at Retford or 2 of the bridges on Route. I had to drag my 27 back out and lift the fenders to get through plus we scraped a standard canopy on 2 bridges. 2 very friendly boat clubs on route plus numerous crt sanitary stations made for a great Norman Holiday. Ref the boat from heck info i will try but i think you need to be a Freemason. lol. As for by- heck Ian, Give yourself a Nip.
