Does any one no about hiring out boats. I have been asked if I would hire one of my boats out. The only boats I see for hire are steel boats. Is this because of strength in case some one hits a lock etc.Does any one know of fibreglass boats being used for hire.
All the time on the broads, I wouldn't do it. You'd need a different level of river licence and the boat would need a landlords certificate if it has gas on board, bss is much stricter too I think, then theres your insurance to consider.
I have been hiring on the canals since 1979 and the only GRP boat I have hired was way back in 1979 (a Highbridge Crusader if memory serves). I would not hire out a GRP boat these days; too many idiots out there who don't seem to know what they are doing! Also, as DF says, you would need a commercial licence, commercial insurance etc. etc. so I doubt it would be worth your while. I have lent boats to friends, but only when I knew they were competent boaters!
