First ever voyage on Jacob with the wife at the helm. Got to Pollington lock on the Aire and Calder to be met by crt people. Asked if we would run about in the lock while they sorted the hydraulics out on the sluices. 20 mins later they opened the gate and let us out, to go to next Marina park up and picnic then return to Heck (SYBC). On the way out the CRT guy thanked us for help. I then told him it was the fist lock we had ever been in in our lives. Came back through on our own and felt like proper pros. Which way Ney York. LOL.
I had my maiden voyage a few weeks ago. Oh what fun! The cheapo anti vandal keys I bought off ebay didn't fit the sluice gate locks. A pair of long nosed pliers and some persistence saved the day. 10 locks later, and 20 minutes of thinking time, I realised what the baseball bat shaped piece of wood was for in the cupboard next to the windlasses. 20 mins figuring out a guillotine lock etc. etc. Still enjoyed every minute of it!
