I am new to boating and would welcome any advice on which ropes to buy to moor and use our norman 20 on both canals and rivers .Material,length and number?

On my 20 I had one at the bow and one each corner at stern. Depends how deep locks you plan to use but on the River Avon I had 10mtr ropes they were soft line ropes think we had 14mm, 12mm would prob ok as in link below. Try and keep away from nylon ropes, cheaper but too hard to tie tight and don't store neatly.

I would go for 4 @ 1.5 times boat length, 11-13mm polyester double braid(also called braid on braid), it's durable against lock walls and nice to handle, can be eye spliced with hollow needle fids, 2 at bow cleat running along the gunwhales to cockpit each side and 1 at each stern cleat, that way you can always step out the cockpit with full control of the boat.
