Hi,

Got the engine with the boat, manage to get it run after rebuiding the carb, but the engineer from the marina who did it reckon i need to replace the bearing which looks really expensive if they do it.
So does anybody know of independent who works on old merc ?
Thx

Theres more than one bearing in an outboard, you need to be more specific, if it's more than an easy gearcase job I wouldn't spend money on an old 2 stroke engine of that age.

Not sure which one it is but the engineer told me the fly wheel was a bit loose and so it was a sign of damage bearing, will ask him next week which one he is talking about
Thx for the reply

That will be a main bearing, may be possible to change without a complete strip down but would take a good look and some ingenuity, depends how it's located in the housing, if a complete strip down it's a lot of work to pay someone else for on an old stroke engine and you'll need to pay for gaskets as well as the bearings.

Thx Df for the answer, As I said I will it give it a go myself, I think the engineer will supply answer if I got stuck.
Will start by the water pump(needs a new impeller)and will see how I get on.
