Get a diesel Eberspacher and an outboard tank filled with diesel - that sorts that bit out easy-peasy!

It is the batteries and charging them that will cause more of a headache! Outboards only give maxiumum 8amp and that ain't enough!

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!

I'm half with Clive, diesel eberspacher/webasto heaters are great and can easily be setup to run from a portable outboard tank and they smell better on parafin (I did this on my norman 25), use a bayonet fitting on the tank end and most of the bss bits are covered too.
If your batteries are close to the engine and you use your boat rather than sitting on moorings day after day a good modern 4 stroke can keep up with the power usage, I believe Steve & Deb are on the broads so you can always use an electric point for the occaisional battery charge to keep topped up, I used to charge 2x 110Ah batteries on a 15hp mariner and it was fine for 2 week holidays with fridge running (compressor type) and occaisional heater usage.
