| Pumped the bilge today and noticed a 'Watermota 150' screwed to the hull. Google tells me its a pump. What is it for? Not wired or plumbed into anything just sat there looking useless. Any ideas? |

I think the Watermotor 150 you (and I) found in google is not the same as the one fitted to your boat.
Watermotor were also a popular English engine marinising company. Popular fitment to Freeman cruisers.... They made millions of Ford 105e conversions. Later they made some larger diesels. I suspect what you have is something related to that manufacturer, perhaps a water inlet filter.
Do you have an inboard engine? Did you have an inboard engine???

Thanks for the info. I'll do some more Googling. The writing on it does say 'watermota' not 'watermotor', if that makes any difference. I have an outboard, only had the boat a few days (Norman 23), so don't know whether it previously had an inboard (but I suspect they probably did as standard from the factory?) I'm guessing it was water inlet pump for engine cooling, but that's purely a guess. Not even sure whether it goes through the hull or just screwed to it or wood underneath, bilge is currently too dirty to tell, but i'm not unscrewing it to find out! I might have to just wait til I can arrange a lift out and investigate further. Hopefully I can get rid if serving no purpose. |

I would say it's a raw water inlet strainer/filter for when it had an inboard engine at some time. That is def a through hull fitting with a valve on top before it gets to the housing. Tread carefully with it as you don't want it leaking, when boat comes out of the water next I would see about getting it removed and glassed over.
It was Watermota that marinised engines as Deano said ( he's a school teacher so can't spell very well  ) |

Look to be a weed filter to me, as said be careful till out of the water then do a good patching job and remove it.
Alternate to patching is use the hole for a speed log if it's in a suitable spot.

Watermota 150. Whats it for?
