Hi.have a Norman 23.my problem is the canopy is beginning to shows its age.it was a lovley dark blue 5 years ago.now its more pale blue.and not helped by sea gulls sitting on it.....a few seems going but can probably resew these.are there any products on the market i could try to revitalise it.I looked at fabsil.but never used it.thanks.
A lot depends on what the cover is made from, but a sweeping statement would say that if the colour has lightend then its probably UV damage to the pigment. There are lots of cleaners on the market but to start i would go for washing up liquid and a soft brush. Take the canopy off lay the parts on a flat surface and give them a good clean, but be gentle, hence the SOFT brush.
Also a cheap plastic tarp, try builders merchants B&Q etc covers the canopy when you are not aboard and protects it.
If all else fails at least you have got the original canopy as a templet and you may be able to get a local tarpaulin manufacture to make a copy, can work out cheaper than the main canopy manufactures.
Try AutoGlym "Vinyl and Rubber Care" - about £7 from Halfords. I've done my canopy with it and it cleaned off all the dirt, revitalised the colour and left the canopy clean, soft and looking like new. The canopy is at least 8 years old.
Second the Autoglym, a good scrub and wash with a mild soapy solution, let it dry well then spray it on and wipe it off immediately with a good cloth. Keeps the canopy nice and supple and gives it a nice sheen. Look out for the 3 for 2 offers at Halfords.
