Hey guys,

Does anyone know anything about the 'Pacemaker 29' 1965 wooden cruiser?
Ive been offered one at a price that seems ok
twin perkins diesel engines, bsc till 2016, 6 months canal and river licence, antifouled 18 months ago, needs a bit of internal sprucing up
£2.5k
ive looked all over the net and cant find anything other than this:
http://www.ancasta.com/boats-for-sale/pacemaker-29-5522/

any help would be appreciated

Nice engines... looks like it goes some!!!!

If they are in reasonable nick - its worth the asking price just for the engines!!!!

Might be a bit over powered for the canals though.........

Never buy a wooden boat!! The maintenance could be excessive!!! Get a survey what ever you do. But if structurally sound, why not?

It appears there are lots in the USA, but I think that is a different company..???

Have a look at these links...

Fairey heritage... WOW!!! Classic powerboat racing!!!!!

Those engines are quick!!!! Has it got the turbo or supercharger option????

May be worth an ask on the Motor Boats Monthly forum.??

Hi Deano

Thanks for looking I've seen all the links when I was looking.
There are plenty of references to pacemaker 19 but nothing on the 1965 pacemaker 29?
The pacemakers in the USA are a different company unfortunately .
They are not turbocharged engines .
I'm going to give it a good going over before parting with any hard earned lol

Here's her little sister from the 1965 Boat Show brochure. Can't find a 29 - but have you opened up all the pull-down information in the Ancaster advert? Doesn't seem much information missing!
Brave man if you take this on!

Hi Fred, thanks to everyone for looking .
I rang Ancasters who passed me onto a surveyor called David Hopkins who was a nice old chap.
Apparently his dad built all the pacemakers.
He said the pacemaker 30 wasn't built in any great number cause they were too expensive to build so they concentrated on the 19 and 23.
Especially after the 19s were getting used for racing.
Anyway according to him a 30 in excellent condition should fetch 20 to 30k
( a long way from the 2.5k being asked) and it's far from pristine lol
So I'm going to have a look and see how she sits, take her for a spin and give her as much of an inspection as I can.
I will keep you all updated lol

Before anyone says it, yes I know wooden boats take far more maintainance that a GRP.

Boating is like sitting in a cold shower tearing up £20 notes, wooden boats are more like £50 notes....
If it's not rotten to start with....

Well I had a look and decided against it.
It's back on fleabay if anyone wants to have a look.
Can't wait for the better weather so I can stop looking on fleabay for stuff I don't need lol and concentrate on enjoying the boat I've got.

Wow... now if I didn't have a boat..... that would be worth paying for a good survey. If the hull is sound and solid.... that's a bargain.

What put you off it????

It was speaking to the guy that did it really.
And the fact I couldn't find any info on it online.
I even spoke to a surveyor who said ' don't touch it without getting it out of the water and really checking the underside'
The seller wasn't keen despite me offering to pay to crane it out.

I would say without a survey it did exceptionally well!!!! That could be £3000 that will rot away in a few years. BUT - If the hull is sound and surveys well, that was the bargain of the year so far. The engines are probably with that alone!!!
