I'll let you all know what happens later on.......................!!

I bought a 5 litre of polyester resin and also a single metre of 600gsm woven roving as I was out and I need to repair some hull impact damage in a Shakespeare speedboat I bought myself and Arisa. I didn't damage the boat and bought the boat and a Snipe break-back trailer for a mere £170 so cannot complain.

However, about the resin and mat I did complain. I bought off their E-bay shop, so two separate purchases, the resin had a postage tag of £10.20 and the 600 grams of mat a hefty £4.50

I understand about the resin - it's classed as too hazardous to post and comes by courier, fair enough. But £4.50 for 600 grams of cloth is going it a bit however you post it, and when you just fold it up and stuff it in the same box as the resin so it travels free then one might justifiably feel taken advantage of.

So I wrote to them via E-bay and complained. I didn't mention that I've bought off them before or that I contribute to 3 marine forums so I'm going to see how they respond in ignorance of that fact.

I've asked them to refund the postage basically as is only fair.

I'll let you know how they respond or if they are in fact ripping me off.

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!

Was this postage charge added after the transaction, or did you know about it at the time of payment?

Added as a charge one cannot avoid when purchasing the item. As I say - you expect postage to be combined for two items from the same store, or not charged at all if in a box with another item where no weight or bulk added.

By itself £4.50 is pretty good for 600g these days, postage prices have rocketed the last few years, and it'll only get worse now the shareholders have to have their pockets lined as well. Also, don't forget ebay allows sellers to include the cost packaging materials and travel to the post office (not relevant if a courier collects from their premises though).

They should have combined the two, but other than that it's about the going rate. Often, mail order companies hide the true postage prices in the product's pricing, we get used to it, and when one adds it all on top it looks expensive.

Another vote for CFS here - I am local to them and they are very helpful with advice etc. I've probably bought from them half a dozen times in the last 6 months.

You could buy direct from their website... not sure if the prices are comparable, but the shipping goes on the total weight.

If you buy seperate items from ebay without contacting them and getting a combined price first expect the two postages to be added automatically, computers have massive processing power but no common sense, and no business is going to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially if they're not bright enough to ask a price first...

East Coast have come back to me and played fair. Well done them.

HI Clive, we take the orders off then pass them to our warehouse staff to pack (who do not have access to our paypal) . they have obviously noticed the same address but have not thought to inform us about the double postage. I will refund immediately. however I would suggest on future orders if ordering more than one Item from us please click the 'request total' during checkout so we can combine the postage, we get so many orders that it is difficult sometimes to vet each one, the combined postage through ebay process is there for such a scenario. Kind rgds Martin
