Hi I have just bought a Norman 23 called Simatson, I call her Simmy for short. I live on her and have just had the 'morse' control changed to one with just one lever as I couldn't do the two levers and it was backwards for forwards which didn't help at all lol. I'm very pleased with her and she won't rust yay (I sold my last boat as a project as it had rusted through eek) before the little springer I lived on a dawncraft for two years.

Can anyone tell me about how they heat their boat please? I was on elec hookup on my dawncraft and ideally I would like to do the same this year but may not be able to. Simmy is all original inside so I don't really want to put a logburner in but might have to. I'll register her on the website and add pics says It's being updated when I click on it.

Hello again
Trish

If you can afford it then Propex make a heater which will run off the electric hook-up when in a marina but will burn gas (Butane/Propane) when you are on the move.

Look at this http://www.propexheatsource.co.uk/heaters/hs2000e

I don't have one myself, but a chap near here recommends these

Hi Trish
Welcome to the madhouse!
If you go for a Propex, use Propane, I set mine up with Butane and when the temperature drops too low it "ices" and loses pressure, just when you really need the heating.
They're pretty efficient too, you can add warm air outlets anywhere in the boat with a little planning - I have one just on the helm footrest position! Great comfort when winter cruising.

Hiya Thank-you for the welcomes and advice, I'll look into things winter will soon be here! Simmy had a blue gas bottle which I've changed for red so that's sorted

Thanks IanM and tigtog too, I'll email pics when Simmy looks a bit more presentable as I've just moved aboard and still putting things away lol.

I would suspect that propane and a Propex could work out very expensive for living aboard.

Better to consider the Eberspacher / Minuki / Webasto route. Although more expensive to purchase, they run on red diesel and cost a fraction of the price of gas to run.
