Can anyone recommend a good 12 volt vacuum cleaner or say which ones to avoid! I realise that "12 volt" and "good" probably don't go together. I don't mind a rechargeable one or one running off the boat's 12 volt supply. So many of the cheap ones do seem to be rubbish. I was hoping to get one under £50.

This time next year.....

Hi Ray.
In my opinion, based on the fact that I boight a good 12v hand held vacumn cleaner that would not pick up smoke, I would spend your £50 at Aldi and buy a new two stroke generator. True they only produce 800 watts at 240 Volts, but there are mains voltage cleaners that use less power than 800 watts. Also yo might even find on ebay a generator that will produce up to 1.5 0r even 2.5 Kva which you can use for all power tools.

Hi Jimbo,
I suspect you could be right. The one I was using had been left in the boat when I bought her, it was a "Ring" make and it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding! A dust pan and brush seemed just a good.

I bought a cheap one from ebay, says Kingston VC107 on box. Suctions not too bad especially with the nozel/crevis spout on which gets in all the corners. I just use it on the carpets to vacuum up after brushing with a stiff brush. Defeats the object a bit using a brush as well but my carpets are like ribbed cord. Does the job fine just the 2mtr cord could do with being longer.

It may be a bit over budget, but I have a rechargeable Dyson hand held cleaner, a spare battery, and a cheap battery inverter for the charger. works really well.
