Has anyone been on the Chesterfield canal recently. We are planning a trip from Torksy lock and wonder how to tackle the trent and what the state of the canel is. I hear it can be very shallow and weedy?
Are there many moorings?
How long will it take to get from West Stockwith to the extreme of the navigable section before turning around?
Not sure what motor you have on yr Norman but most will cope fine with the Tidal Trent down to West Stockwith - Remember you will have to turn against the Ebb to make your entrance to the Lock (Its at an Odd Angle).
Nothing to worry about really if you have experienced the tidal Trent before, but do have a copy of the charts to hand & the relevant anchor etc (Local advice will be if you lose the motor you will be on a mudbank before you are in trouble - But I prefer to be a little more in control !!!!)
Not sure on the Limit of Navigation on the Chesterfield now - Think its still Norwood Tunnel - Canal Plan runs that to be 31 miles & 45 locks so even for us thats a 4 day trip really out & back (Although we have done similar in 2!)
I think you will be ok for moorings as you can slide a cruiser in where a sewertube wont go depth wise.
Let us all know how you get on with pics !
Adi
Sewer Tubes ? I'd rather have a D**ncr*ft (Only Kidding)
Not done the trent before only real trip out to date on ChrisDanRa was a cruise down to Boston. That was great and although we live in Lincoln we saw it from a visitors perspective which I must say now the Brayford is sorted doesn't look half bad.
Engine is an inboard 16HP two pot Yanmar; spoke with the lockie today ay Torksey who has given me a travel plan and a leaflet for stockwith lock that explains how to tackle it from both tides. Looking forward to it now.
Must get some pics on here of my finished boat that I'm pleased with. Just got to get a few things to finish off like a silencer/muffler on the motor as it is a bit noisey when its going all day, like the sound but just want it a few decibels lower, and a bit of varnishing left on some of the woodwork. Oh and the horn has now decided to give up on me and; and ... Did I say a few things
The phrase is 'stupider man than I'll ever be', I saw the boat in question and heard about some of it's issues.... You should be fine on the trent with the right timing for the tide.
