My Honda 8hp outboard has a steering plate with 2 holes. I'm sorting out the attempt by whoever fitted the engine to save money using some very old brackets they also went mad with a hacksaw and shortened the steering tube by about 3 inches so it now jams on full starboard lock!
Should the steering cable link go in the stern hole and not in the forward hole as it is now? I suspect it should be in the stern hole to give more movement, it only moves about 30 deg each side at the moment.

This time next year.....

I can now answer my own question.... The outermost hole (forward) according to Honda is for linking two outboards together. The inner hole to the stern is the one for the steering rod to attach. The outboard now has more movement for less turns of the wheel lock to lock.

This time next year.....
