Very sad news for 2 people on a boat in windemere. An alarm may have made a difference. I can see this being in the boat safety scheme, its a silent killer that can take effect very quickly.
Such a pity most Loyds chemists sell them cheaper than other outlets brings back memories of friends lost on a hire boat holiday on the broads many years ago
BSS Strongly recommend that they be fitted but when asked why it's not compulsory they suggested it's too much like Nanny state and that as they are difficult to test without expensive equipment then a recommendation is as far as they will go. I have one on my boat and it sounded one afternoon when moored with cabin door open, canopy up but rear panel open and outboard ticking over! The wind was blowing exhaust fumes back into boat! I was suprised to say the least! I strongly recommend them to everyone but there's nowt as queer as folk and some of what they do to keep warm in the cabin, block up vents, light oven and open oven door etc etc. Even solid fuel stove with no door glass burning away at time of BSS - At least that check is now in!
