Hi. I have a Norman 20 and am looking for a new battery to replace the previous one which was enormous - I am certain it was from an HGV! What size battery would you recommend please for starting the 10 hp Honda outboard and running a couple of fluorescent lights. Would 60 amps be sufficient? I have another battery as a back up, but want to make sure that the one I purchase as the main one is up to the job. I have a solar charger which I use to top it up as and when required. Your expert advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Kind regards Pete
You can start that engine with the smallest of batteries. I would stick an 80 ah leisure battery in. if space is a concern even a motor cycle battery would do, but don't run the lights for long.
On my 20 I have an 85 ahr battery. Electric start Mariner 9.9, couple small strip lights in cabin and a couple led spots in cockpit and a car stereo. Only use boat mainly as a day boat with a few overnights and has been fine. Is topped up by a solar panel. Did have a 60ahr but it was struggling by end of a day out but that was the stereo draining it.
