Calling any 'LITTLE Ouser'??!! Someone...Somewhere....Sometime.. must have strayed up The Little Ouse River towards Brandon Lock. Was that boat YOU??!!....even if you took a wrong turn and it was unintentional! We would love to hear from you. It is just that I can find out very little about the River and, geographically, a mooring for Lydia(our 20) would be a perfect location for our second home. We are eager to find out any unlisted facilities (moorings-wild or not, slipway, overnight stops, food/drink etc). But, more than that, what is the character of the River, the scenery, wildlife..like? We do have an impression and ,of course, we will be doing an initial drive by/walk 'recce' shortly, but your first hand experience, from a boat, would be invaluable. Many thanks Everyone.

Hello Ian on the Ouse on the old west river at twenty pence marina and like it. As for moorings on the little Ouse there are only the ones at the entrance to the river called little Ouse moorings I think. Or denver cruising club had a sign on there clubhouse last year offeing moorings. What ever you do is don't go to littleport as the blokes a right arse. I like the river below earith as you can go on it nearly all year.

Cheers john

We made a dash up there 2 years ago. The Little Ouse moorings are all bank side, but new and very well maintained by a couple who live on site. There is no security, other than the liveaboards and fact it is in the middle of no where.

I don't remember too much about the river itself, very wild and desolate. Lots of good wildlife, greebes, heron, teaming with fish.

There is a sluice structure about half way to Brandon that has been raised to get bigger boats through, but many books still have the old measurement in. Not that is is enough to stop a Norman.

Brandon lock is at the end of the navigation, there is mooring both sides of the lock and it is possible to go a bit further, but the river is very shallow. The actual head of navigation depends very much on the draught of your boat. There is a strange privately owned mooring a little closer to the town, but some folk have reported problems with the owner. So we stayed away and walked the extra 100 yards to the EA mooring.
Brandon is a sleepy Norfolk town with not too much on offer. We went on a Sunday and it was shut!!!
