Sadly I've not posted on here for a little while because my outboard and all remotes were stolen at the end of June.
Craft Insure, who have been good, have just offered me £870 (taking into account the excess) to find a replacement (it was a 14-year-old Mariner 15hp Big Foot).

My online searches have found very few, if any, suitable replacements for this amount of money.

So it looks like my 30-month tenure as a boat owner is about to come to an end with the tricky task of trying to sell a boat with no engine.

Could anyone give me a rough idea of the value of a Conquest without an engine? I paid £2.5k for it two years and have improved the interior since then.

Alternatively, any clues as to where I might find a sub-£1,200ish outboard with throttle controls would be gratefully received!

Or maybe I should haggle with Craft Insure...? I've yet to accept the offer.

I would haggle!! If it is so difficult to replace for the money then that must weigh in your favour!!.That is what your insurance is supposed to gaurd against, excess aside that is.

Thats about right with Craftinsure, 10% deduction per year from new maxing out at 70% so they would give you 30% of a new outboard value. If my maths are right that values a new one at around £2900 which is about right as they list at £2961 with electric start and power tilt so they have done their homework.

Still worth haggling though.

Worth having a scout around, if you are inland water 10hp is enough, well it is for my 20. I sold my Honda 10hp for £500 complete with remotes and tank so i would have though upto £1200 would find something somewhere.

Try these, they are in Lancs and have loads of secondhand engines.
