How much does a peugeot 1.9 diesel engine weigh?

Maybe getting a good engine and want to replace the 1500 BMC engine in the boat.

Also I know you either made or got a heat exchanger where did you get it from?

I don't know what weight but I would guess lighter than a bmc, I made my manifold/heat exchanger but had problems with welds splitting, I'm now using watercooled exhaust manifolds from stream environmental (google it)and bowman heat exchangers, barely gets over 70 degrees, use the peugeot oil cooler plumbed into the closed water circuit, I believe the hdi ones fit the older xud9 engines (I'm fairly sure mine were hdi ones).
Get the gearbox as well and cut a couple of inches off the bellhousing as it makes a good rear mount.

Thanks Dave.

Was it a worthwhile conversion? From a fuel consumption and reliability point of view.

Fuel comsuption not much different but I never realy checked before, smoothness/smoke/smell yes well worth it.
If you don't have a bit of engineering skills and gear it's a big job.

It possible to use the existing Bowman heat exchanger with some modification or does it need to be a completely different?

I was wondering if the exhaust ports line up or would an adapter need making?

Not a chance of fitting as-is, depends on the port layout wether an adaptor could be made, whats up with the bmc you have?

Read ALL the stuff put out by Lancing Marine and ASAP before you start to marinise an engine. Starting with the right engine is vital. Ford Transit lumps are popular conversions at the moment.

As DF hinted at, if you are not already a whizz with the vertical mill and a dab hand with tig welding, forget any conversion that does not have a full set of marine parts available. You will also need sand casting facilities and radiator soldering skills.

Dave is an engineering God, despite his modesty, and even he has had to give up on the home brew manifolds.... they are a work of art, or lunacy, depending on your take on life.

The parts aint cheap either, not even when you compare them against a new outboard of a significant capacity.

Nothing really wrong with it, other than breathing heavy and the rear cabind getting a blue haze after an hour of running. I even have a small extract fan to draw the fumes out.

The only reason I ask is one of my vans is coming to the end of its working life and has only done 80k miles. The electrics in van have developed a mind of their own locks when it wants, wipers work when the van is parked and the indicators work when they want. It thinks it a boat as likes to have a but of water in its' bilge.

So was going to scrap the van and keep the engine. Therefore have free engine and bellhousing.

I will find out. It is 1.9 diesel not the HDi on a 03 plate.

As much acceleration as a dead slug but still starts and runs which is why I thought the engine would be good to use.
