Hello All,

Well finally I have mastered the art of uploading photos on this fantastic forum !

I bought this Norman 22 mk1 a few months back to do a complete restoration on her, she had been used for sea fishing in a nearby village from where I live so a little neglected on the inside but nothing that wouldn't stop me from using it as it was but I have decided to do a renovation on her.

Its not going to be a quick job as where I live in Scotland we do get alot of rain, however, I am lucky to have her in my driveway at home so can work on her as and when the weather allows.

A few photos of her when she arrived ;

Just going to check that these photos upload ok then I will start with more information about her that I have and my working progress so far.

Kind Regards,

Dan.

ps, I am very open to comments and suggestions, please feel free to stop me in my tracks as I do listen and want to do it right.

The current name (as I bought her) is MELINDA and I have the BSS certs with this name back to 2005. Previous to this she was called RICANNE and the BSS cert for this name was dated 1999.

I know she was afloat on the Ripon Canal as there are stickers and badges all over the boat.

Her Index / Registration number is 47493 and on searching this number on Jim-shead.com I have found her registered as MELINDA ;

http://www.jim-shead.com/waterways/boatreg.php?bnm=&rno=&na=BW&st=27200&bbld=

Maybe someone knows of the boat or knows a previous owner ?

So, she has a Perkins 4.107 inboard diesel and an Enfield 130 swivel z-drive both were working when she was last removed from the water in September last year. Not I must admit 'looking' too great but nothing a good overhall and service won't (hopefully) sort out. I have removed the Enfield leg so that I can work on that in my workshop when weather dosen't allow me to work on the boat.

Regards,

Dan.

My next job was to remove the rubber fendering that was hanging off the bow, there was only a few meters eachside of the bow of rubber fendering and when looking closly at the heavily painted wooden fendering I decided to remove this as well.

My method for the wooden fendering removal was to cut vertically about 1 inch forward from the fixing screw and to a depth leaving about 5mm before the hull, then each section was lightly tapped with a small hammer to break the wood leaving the fixing screw still attached to each piece, by twisting each section anti-clockwise it started the fixing screw moving and was able to remove the whole screw as the heads had become rounded so not possible with a screwdriver.

This just leaves a good sanding down and re-filling of the holes left from the removed screws.

Regards,

Dan.

Sanding down complete on the port side rubbing rail. Also all fittings removed (holes to be filled from old fittings) from the cabin ready for a good sanding down before atempting the paint job. This just leaves the removal of the old metal bow-rail of which I am replacing for a new stainless steel one and the old deck cleats & fairleads which again will be replaced by new stainless steel ones.

I have recieved my order of paint, 2.5 ltrs of Dark Blue Anti-foul, 5 ltrs of Pre-kote and 5 ltrs of Toplac all from International Paints.

Dan.

Forgot to add a photo of the rather sad looking Perkins inboard engine ;

I have since gently had a scrap with a few items in my toolbox and the flakey paint is coming off really well leaving a clean looking engine, so I will continue with this method but am thinking of getting a local firm down with a hi-ab crane and removing it from the boat so I can work on it along with the Enfield Z-Drive in my workshop, I think this will be an easier option, it also means I can give the bilges a good cleaning out and also remove all the old wood to replace with new ???

Regards,

Dan.

Excellent work and progress. My advice for what it's worth...ENJOY everything and anything about the project. If and when you become tired or frustrated and it seems like work, STOP and take a rest. Then keep calm and carry on.

Good luck with it all.

From the photos it looks like the lower rubbing strake was under water or close to it. I would not put one back as could cause trouble later.

Thanks for the photos and good luck with the project

Thank you for your kind words Neil,

Lester Mayo, yes, I am onto that today, when I got the boat the strake on the port side was missing and the stbd one was very badly rotted so that has since been removed, I have glassed the inside of the hull around the screw holes and am filling the holes from the outside today as with a few dents and scraps that she has. Its the first dry day here for 3 days so am working hard at it.

You may think why am I saying I'm working hard at at when I am on the forum typing ........ well, I have moved my wireless router closer to the side of the house where the boat is and I now have WIFI in my boat !!! So on my coffee breaks beer breaks I can read over the forum and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Regards,

Dan.

Dan

Dont bin the bow rail , if its painted , give it a sand & a repaint & put it up for sale

While most will want Stainless , others will still buy if the price is right

Adi

Sewer Tubes ? I'd rather have a D**ncr*ft (Only Kidding)

Thanks for your reply and comments, I am using it as a template for my new stainless one, as it is not that heavy but bulky I think postage would cost a fair bit but when I get it back I will be offering it and also other older fittings from my boat for sale on this forun - well not for sale but for the cost of postage only.

Regards,

Dan.
