Hi everyone in Norman land.
Can anyone tell me the bset type of paint to use on my Norman 23 for the deck, ie, bit you walk round and at the front? The idiot I bought ther boat from has painted it in Wilkinsons non drip household gloss paint, which needless to say is all coming off and looks very tatty, plus top part of boat has been painted in horiable white.
Cheers
Mike

I used Protectakote on mine which is not cheap but is very tough and hard wearing. Contains rubber granules which make a very effective antislip. A well applied coating will last years literally.

Thanks for letting me know Trevork, how much paint did you need, was that one or two coats? is that the same as Deck paint that you can get at Chandlerys/ebay etc?
What do you surgest for the top part of the boat?
Thanks
Mike

One two and half litre tin did my 23 walkways and the main cabin roof with some to spare. Not suggesting you do your cabin roof though! If you put it on generously one coat is plenty.
As for paint, there are so many to choose from and it depends if its been painted before.

Yes unfortunately it has been painted before, but not sure what sort of paint, if the rest of the boat is anything to go by, probably household emulsion, some people shouldn’t be let loose with paint or any DIY, make it look worse!!

try kneeling on the deck all day putting window seals in a 23, that's what I call deck pain!

Adi-n-chez

Did you mix the spheres into the paint or "broadcast" (sprinkle) them onto the surface?

Trevork

Protecktakote sounds ideal except the reference to the use of Xylene - isn't this stuff pretty lethal?

Adi-not-chez

Many thanks for the info. One further question is roughly how much of the material you used, say, per meter?

Regards, Stan

Hey Sonny do you recon a 31' boat could squeeze in where you moor for a few days? I'm hoping the SSA will come off in the next few days and want a head start next friday for the next attempt at the broad run but st.neots lock will be shut again for cock up ongoing maintenence, I'm looking for somewhere the other side to leave it a few days.

Thanks Sonny, I take it you live local then.
If the SSA comes off and the locks open before the closure I'll give you a bell.
