Over the paew yrs we have left it until May before purchasing a 6 month licence (We moor on Private water), short-terming if Easter to May is nice.

This yr (Because of the nice weather in March I licenced early ready for Easter Weekend (A washout!) now May Day approaches & we have this .....

For those who dont know the Soar - It was like this just before Easter ...

If its not too bad until Tues / Weds next week then stops raining we may get out for the BHol ! (I dont mind low reds on the Soar but this is a little too high [:D )

Tell me abour it Adi, the River Avon is up nearly up a metre from a few weeks ago and they are forecasting nearly 24 hours of torrential rain on Sunday

This is my first flood conditions since i bought the boat 2 years ago. Hopefully i got the ropes ok as the water is way over the jetty now so cannot get to the boat. My biggest worry is a 25ft Birchwood moored across the next walkway outside me and the posts are not the best i can see it coming across into me.

Not sure on yr moorings , we always leave our ropes loose (Poles & the gangway one side , & a boat the other) When the gangway is flooded we can get (Dodgy) access onto the bow from the bank , It was the big floods in 2007 that were the worst ! Luckily for us, the Soar drops quickly after the rain stops.

Hopefully it should be ok, it's tied to rings that rise up the metal posts that i put up. Didn't like the look of the small rotting wood posts that were there before. Water is about 2" above the walkway at present. Should be an interesting weekend for Rosie and Jim looking out the window

Yep, this is turning into the wettest drought I've ever known. Down here in the south-west we have 8 rivers in the official drought zone that are on flood alert.

I went out on the Thames yesterday around pangbourne and reading. It wasn't as bad as Adi's pics but still an interesting ride. don't think I would go out if it gets any worse.

Based on the Lancaster canal we have nothing like the pictures but are getting battered with constant rain and still quite cold
Not managed a trip yet this year never mind a sleep on board.soft furnishings still at home and not even on the boat yet.seemingly it will at least get warmer as the week gets on so let's all hope for the better weather .There's certainly no drought here

Well i'm helpless now. The Avon is 5ft up as of 1830 today and expected to peak at 7-8 ft tomorrow morning. Weather forecast isn't too bad for next day or so, so hopefully it will soon drop as my mooring posts are only good for about another 5-6ft and being as it's on a pontoon type walkway i cannot get near it now.

After falling a little overnight , todays rain has brought the Soar up by 18" at least It must be well over the banks in some places by now.

Dad has checked ours - All the pontoons are now under water.

More to come tonight ......

We volunteer for the local canal trust and the weather is causing real problems to some of the restoration work. At some of the sites the contractors have had to punch a hole through the bund to let the water through because the bypass pipes were not coping.

And on Saturday afternoon we erected some security fencing in advance of a contractor visit today. By noon yesterday half the site was underwater, that's a rise of at least two foot overnight:

Well the Avon is at last dropping after rising again after yesterdays rain, still just under 4ft up. Hopefully it will be low enough tomorrow to get on board.
Apart from the 10 minutes from marina to my mooring with a slightly rising river 12 days ago it's been unusable.
We got away quite lightly really, was dreading a repeat of 2007 when the Avon rose 18ft.
Hopefully thats my first flood conditions out of the way.

Interested to see you post a picture of the site for the new slipway on the Stoudwater. My wife and I were members in the seventies (we worked on Bowbridge Lock and Kings Reach near Tunnel House) and we took a couple of friends down to the area a few weekends ago to walk from the Ocean to Wallbridge (day 1) and Wallbridge to Bell Lock (Day 2). The weather was gorgeous - what a change!

Are you intending to pop into "Stroud on Water" in June?

Regards, Stan

Your's lucky to get a 6 month licence, on the Thames they only do one from January to December which is the same price regardless of what month you buy it Grrrrrrrrr

Maybe but its 80% of a full year now ! - Not worth the extra for the full year for us - Too cold & usually flooded !

Hi Stan

We're perhaps getting a bit off topic but, yes, me and my better half, Jo, will be around Stroud on Water (shameless plug: www.stroudonwater.org.uk) for the whole weekend, plus probably set-up and tear-down. We are mere pawns in the game but we will be doing our bit to make it a success. I may even be messing about on a boat for some of it too. It's very exciting. We should have about 4km of proper width/depth canal by then and it will see the first significant boat traffic for about a century.

Despite the appalling weather the main earth works for the slipway are about 60% there with the rest planned for tomorrow. After that it's concreting and block work plus some mods to the kerbs and about a zillion other small details to sort. We're probably there on Saturday and on Sunday we'll be on a work party preparing the festival site.

We were working at Bowbridge lock at the beginning of March. Time has not been kind. The brief was to clear the worst of the vegetation so engineers could assess the unstable lock walls. We had probably the worst weather we've seen on any work party - full-on rain, sleet and snow. One end of the lock is a no-go area because the brickwork on one side is so loose.

If you want to meet up at the festival, give me a shout. I reckon you have earned a beer or two for helping Trev with the website. I was planning more shameless plugs for the festival closer to the date...
