| Sunny but cold. Yesterday dressed as Michelin man day. I went pike fishing on the Thames with a friend, plenty of fish on the fish finder but not one bite. We move to a new spot known as pike ally anchored up and promptly fell in cardinal sin no life jacket on. I am strong swimmer, Climbed into the boat with some difficulty. Previously I had remove change of clothes, towels and bathing ladder for the winter from the boat. Yes I carry personal flares, throw lines, life jacks for all including the dog, back to the mooring to go home for a shower luckily only 10 mins from the mooring and 15 mins to home. Then engine stopped rope around the prop . Cleared quickly as we have and outboard. During the day we saw only one other boater he was on his own. Next time I go fishing with wet suit and spear gun. I was lucky the outcome could have been so different. Please be prepared and it will not happen. |

| After seeing someone fall in about a year ago and being a largish fellow he struggled to get pulled back on the boat. Got me thinking about an emergency rope type ladder. I had an old wooden step ladder unused at home so after a bit of chopping about, drilling and ropework turned it into a great little rope ladder with lead piping beneath bottom rung to hopefully sink it. Hope we never need it but you never know. |

Hi Tigtog I have been boating /canoeing on the Thames from Putney to Letchworth for the past 45 years in the past 10 years. I have seen a reduction of fish population to the stage where the fishing is a waste of time. Yet I continue, to travel hopefully is better than arrival. At first I put the reduction in fish stock to mink, turtles (I have seen them the size of dinner plates the turtles not mink ). Now herons But none of these would thrive if there was no fish. During a recent river trip in the summer between Henley and oxford the only place I found fish was under the trees in remote locations. I have an old eagle fish finder. This week I found some good fish between under the trees between days lock and Clifton lock. But that will change. The envirment agency says the fish are finding natural food . Pete

Hi tigtog Not much luck in fishing nothing to write home about no specimen fish. I did find a great fishing spot to find that I had set the finder to demo mode. I thought that would get a laugh Pete
