I teach in a youth marching band (I know..!), and our equipment truck was stolen from a locked yard in Bedford sometime last night. The truck was loaded with all our percussion equipment as well as other bits and pieces.
I'm sure it's long gone by now but if we would just ask people to keep an eye out for it and obviously if you are offered any concert percussion equipment, large xylophones ect... through strange sources or see anything on the internet please let us know.
It is a gloss black Leyland LDV truck (was 11 ton converted down to a 7.5 ton) With The Nexus Drum & Bugle Corps logo on the side front and back. Registration ended in WEB (I think)
Obviously the police have been informed and we have spoken to local scrap dealers to keep an eye out.
If you see it, can you let me or Bedford police know immediately.
We now have a lot of very disappointed kids.... they raised the money to pay for it all.......

Thieving b'stards will take anything these days, I'm guessing marching band stuff can't be the easiest of hauls to sell on.
Was it insured?

Insured, but there is a massive excess and things like the custom racking and the sign writing were donated.
Also things like 35 pairs of matching black leather shoes can't be insured, but will cost £100's to replace.

Deano,
I suggest you check with local scrap yards. We had a similar theft in Worcestershire and the thick as shig pit thieves just weighed the instruments in for scrap value.

You are not going to believe this, BUT!!!!
The truck has been recovered thanks to Anglia TV running it as a story on the news.
A viewer phoned it in and the truck has been found near Cambridge with all the instruments intact!!!
We take possession of the kit tomorrow but the truck could be a write off, but hey, £2k for a new truck is far more achievable than £60K for the instruments and uniform.
Its a miracle and the kids are ecstatic!!!!

Good news indeed, I always did like anglia news.
I don't suppose the theiving gits were lying dead underneath it all or is that too much to hope for.
