Hi all. It's time for me to get a BSS cert, and as I've never had the experience of going through this I'd like to know a few things
I presume it is like getting and M.O.T. on a car, and this has bad historical nightmares for me!! lol.
So trying, for once, to be pro-active ( much sniggering from the wife!!!) I wondered if:
A) It's easy to wander around the boat with old checklist, and compare. or
B) Is there such a thing as a pre-inspection inspection, and does it cost much?
Cheers.

Check out the main items ...

1) Gas Appliances (Cooker / Water heater / Fridges) - Check Pilots & burners are Burning Blue (No signs of yellow flame)

2) Batteries - Secure & wired correctly with correct cables used to feed main fuse box ect,

3) Fuel lines / tanks - in good condition etc etc

4) Ventilation - Not blocked , cant be closed etc...

Link to BSS Gudelines - http://www.boatsafetyscheme.com/site/2ndedBSSEssentialGuide_212.asp,

Its not as bad as a car MOT - you can check it all without need for a ramp !

Maybe , but he'll want a sump tray under the engine & may insist on a sea trial to check it floats...

BSS isn't too stressful, most examiners tend to try and fix small things while they are there rather than fail a boat, a lot do free re-test as well as long as they don't have to travel too far.
Download the guide first, if it's had one before theres every chance it'll sail through again.
