This is what my project began its new life as.
She had been laid up in the shadows of a row of conifers.
1.
2. A new home at last, she stands a relic of what she used to be, all covered in moss and algae.
3. Not such the Lucky Lady she set out to be. Would love to know more about the old lass if anyone can fill me in with any details. The reg number on her side was '100357'.
4. Just the first of many scars she had been hiding. This one was 20" long.
5......and this was one of the worst repairs imaginable.
6. The hole on the left side was where the support rollers on the trailer had during time, put too much pressure on the hull that it had finally given way leaving a 16" x 5" rupture.
7. This one image reminds me of Darth Vader from the Star Wars films. Whoever designed those front windows?
8. This photo bears more resemblance to a hanging basket!
9. The transom has seen better days.
10. And yes, the inside cabin was bare also. Bulkhead has long gone.
Well that is what she used to be like on the day I first brought her home.
I have spent many many hours, and sheets and sheets of Fibre matting since, getting the strength back into the Hull. The bulkhead is now fitted and I have cut away the transom and replaced the rotten boarding.
This is what she looked like yesterday, minus the luxury extra canopy, which I removed first off as every time I went beneath it I caught my head on the sharp edge. Silly height really 5ft 6", just above eyeline.
The Bow rail was only hanging on by 2 small screws, and was only made from galvanized water pipe..painted silver of course. Will have to make a new one for her!
Didn't mess with getting new windows that fitted using rubber moldings, came across some used caravan windows and fixed them on with 4mm bolts with an adhesive foam strip to keep things watertight. Forgot at first to heat the perspex enough before we tightened the bolts and got a couple of small cracks. I will replace this window when I come across another window.
Well today I was in my local DIY store and saw a lovely blue paint, so I got a tin of Windsor Blue and tried it on the front end, looks great tonight, will have to give her a full repaint when I come back from my Hols.
I will upload some more pics when I get the time.

Excellent !
Another 17 raised from the grave - There seems to have been a run of these lately
George Lucas obviously took inspiration from the callum/norman 17 as the're much older than Star Wars !

Magnificent. Those first images are fascinating. All that moss and neglect. How did you repair the holes? Epoxy or Poly? What cloth did you use? What method?

Just a few more photos before I jet away on holiday....to Filey.
1. A quick preview of the yet to start on cabin. I have all the carpet ready to be cut and fitted. I have a caravan skylight waiting to be fitted, don't know who's idea it was to cut it out but I am going to have to maybe add a nice piece of marine ply across the whole of the outside roof to get back the strength into it again.
2. Part of the new bulkhead all sealed at the back showing it as it is used as a storage area until my return. Temporary door just to keep the weather out.
3. A view of the inside transom where you can see the new strip of timber that has been inserted. This turned out to be 1" of rotted wood, so I have replaced it with a nice slice of 1" marine ply. I also replaced the top transom timber while I was at that end, but had to cut away the whole of the top edge of the transom to get at it.
4. A view of the outer transom where I have added an extra strip of 1/2" marine ply to the outside for added strength.
5.
6. A view showing the newly placed wheel and controls I have now fitted after wondering which side of the boat they should go. The seat came from a used mobility scooter.
7. Th following photos are from tonight since I tried the new Oxford Blue colour to the shell. Will need a couple of coats to cover the old white, but it now shines a lot more.
8.
Anyway off to Filey for a week tomorrow, see if I can also get some rebuild ideas from those tinkering with their boats in Scarborough Harbour. |

Back from my hols in Filey. Didn't want to come home.
Yes, the Wheel I got from a boat jumble last year for £20, and I got the steering gear on ebay. Think I am going to try and hide the steering box away in some sort of consol or waterproof electrical box where I can also locate the ignition and fuse box etc. Picked up a cheap ride-on mower the other week for spares, and it has a great waterproof ignition switch .
Will try and get a bit more paint on the hull this next few days if the weather is OK, after seeing the Lifeboat at Filey, it made me wonder what my boat would look like dressed in the same livery .

Came across a few more piccies of after the 'Rub Down' Lost some sweat doing that!
Finally finished the first coat of gloss yesterday. Liked it a lot so went back to get a couple of more tins, that should give it a thicker top coat.
Had a look at the other colours available and got a tin of Mediterranean Blue, a nice light creamy blue to try on the top half of the shell. If it doesn't look right we can soon over paint it. |

And to make you even greener......I picked this Evinrude 25 and a 5hp Seagull Century up at a local Car Boot for just £100 and both work like new. Just can't wait to get on the high seas (or low canals) with her. |
