I am wanting some advice on canopy fixings on the roof canvis to the ss frames i have been told that some use flap and long zips ,also some use press studs .also valcro.also the best means to atach all round the edge i see that a lot use turn buttons ,my experence in the past is that the turn buttons are easey to break off ,so any advice would be welcome ,as i am about to make my own canopy . I have had both tubes made using velcro and also poppers.
In both cases the piece of canopy wrapped around the metal support and attached to itself. I would stitch the velcro, the sticky backed stuff is rubbish on a canopy as the heat is too much. I would not use a popper on to the hood frame, there needs to be some give in the attachment to the frame.
Turn buttons around the edge are fine if they don't get kicked. The best one I had was a long length of shock cord that ran through some folded over pieces of canvas that had gaps every now and then, on the side of the boat were small canopy hooks that the shock cord just pulled over.
