Hi everyone back to ask more questions I find perplexing! lol This time it is the regulations about 'grey waste'. As it stands the only grey waste we produce is from washing up the breakfast dishes, plus cups from copious tea drinking! The washing up liquid we use is Ecover, as it seemed to be endorsed as an 'eco-friendly- product. Does this mean we can use it with a clear conscience, or does it still need to be vented into a grey waste tank. If it is to collected then can someone suggest a good place to buy said tank. Cheers. My waste from my sink which like you is only used for cup and glass washing and general hand washing and mine just drains to a flanged hole in side of the boat.
That's what is happening with my boat, but I just wondered whether this was a valid system, or is there a chance some 'B.W.' eco-warrior would see it as an attack on the waterways!! lol But at least I know I'm not alone now!! Thanks for that. Roger
Sinks, basins and showers drain over the side mate. Only toilets are a no-no and must be contained, either in a portable unit (such as a Porta-Potti) or a holding tank for pump-out.
(d) discharge anything into the Waterway from the Boat except unpolluted surface water that drains naturally or water from sinks or showers, washing machines and dishwashers provided that only bio-degradable soaps and detergents are used on board the Boat. [We request that only phosphate-free detergents are used on board the Boat, particularly in washing machines and dish washers.]
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!
Depends on your waterway. On the Gt Ouse we can and do discharge EVERYTHING into the river. It is just the norm. Every one does it and it is legal. Just as it was on the broads and all other rivers 30 years ago!!!
