Posted - 10 Apr 2020 : 10:02:56 I'm feeling a bit grumpy today. The best Easter weather we've had for years and we're not allowed to go to the boat, even though we would not interact with anyone else.
I can sit in the garden with a fishing rod and a beer but it's just not the same. |

Posted - 12 Apr 2020 : 11:34:49 Don't know if this helps, but on my previous Norman the prop was damaged several times due to shallowness and rubbish. The main reason was because the outboard (a 1980s Yamaha)was the permanantly locked down type. There was of course a release lever to tilt up for prop clearing, but in use was fixed in the down position making the prop vulnerable. My present Norman has a new Tohatsu outboard and has a couple of features to minimise prop damage. In neutral and reverse the leg is locked down, but in foreward it hangs loose and if it hits the bottom or a shopping trolley it clicks up by some sort of ratchet mechanism into one or two shallow water positions. It hasn't so far had this feature tested in anger oddly enough but I am pleased that it has it. |

Posted - 12 Apr 2020 : 07:26:53 I am just turned 74 still work every day. Haven’t had a holiday for many years. My last holiday was a day and a half of struggling on the Monmouth when I broke the propeller. If my jet project works I want to spend a lot of time on the canals and rivers and maybe meet a lot of you on this forum. |

Posted - 12 Apr 2020 : 00:49:41 That is very impressive Bob. Must be a good reason for wanting away but, looking at all that, its not easy to see!

Posted - 11 Apr 2020 : 20:04:48 If you want to have a look at my place which I have been trying to sell for over 2 years.Search for Llandyfan camping and fishing for sale. 25 years ago it was 10 acres of scrub-land I built every part of it including digging the lake |

Posted - 11 Apr 2020 : 14:59:36 I am a lucky one. I am glad I did not sell my place. I still have my one acre lake which I can fish if I want and when I have built the jet drive I will be putting my 32 on the lake to test it. I can keep going round the island and think I am, on the canal |

Posted - 11 Apr 2020 : 13:12:14 I've established a routine. I'm painting the garden fence, one panel per day. So far it's lasted a week, with another week's worth still to go. So I know what I'll be doing after breakfast (weather permitting) until 20th April. Shopping once a week, so that's Thursday mornings planned for the foreseeable, etc., etc.
The marina's closed, but they're doing the grounds maintenance and a walk round of all the boats each day. If you want them to check on anything specific, you can ring them and they will.
The boat hasn't been out on the canal since the end of October, when the licence expired. I'm fortunate to have a place in a marina where you don't have to licence the boat while it's in the marina, so that's a saving. On balance, the lockdown isn't too bad, though of course, I'd much rather be boating. |

Posted - 11 Apr 2020 : 10:54:20 Not supposed to visit my boat, but while queuing at Sainsburys Huddersfield next to the canal,I can look over the wall and see it. Last time I looked it was still afloat and tied up,so all seems well. Bored out of my tree at home,so was going to service the car and do various jobs around the house, but found I'd left my toolbox on the boat.Family think I am "swinging the lead" but you can't work without tools (can you?) |

Posted - 10 Apr 2020 : 14:09:05 I can't realy moan as I'm still working, have a reasonable size garden, have open countryside a stones throw away, and a fridge full of beer! I'm spending much less on beer than I would in a pub and not blowing £4 on a lard van every day at work so saving money, I don't drink nearly as much at home so lost nearly half a stone already. I do feel for anyone in a city living in a pokey flat but not about to change places for anyone, we've been for a 4 mile dog walk this morning and seen 3 mountain bikers and one dog walker total so worth the two mile drive away from town as the closer field walks have got much busier. As much as I would like to get out on the boat it's not realy the biggest issue right now. But I can't wait for the pubs to reopen! Probably not till august at the earliest I recon, they'll be the last to reopen.

Posted - 10 Apr 2020 : 11:21:39 I was also really grumpy this morning for exactly the same reason but my daughter told me off big time! She said, Dad just be thankful that you've got a garden to sit in, food and beer in the fridge and no job to lose. And a boat to look forward to enjoying again when all this is over. Fishing rod in garden will make no difference - I'll still catch the same! |
