Posted - 20 Mar 2020 : 14:20:42 Lovely day here in Huddersland.I should be having lunch and drinking Guinness in my little Norman in an exotic location like er Brighouse or Dewsbury, but it is not happening.having chased around several shops for essential supplies (tinned and packet food)and of course Guinness, found very little of what I wanted, but enough for a few days, coming out of Aldi and crossing the road (couldn't get in the car park it was choca) tripped in the middle of the busy road groceries al over the place and landed very hard on one knee.Today knee swollen up and very painful.Went to the boat today hoping that cruising would be ok but found I couldn't bend my leg enough to get in properly. 0bviously climbing lock ladders and crossing lock gates is not on.I blame this bloody virus, because I wouldn't have gone to Aldi if I could have got every thing at Sainsburys, with it's empty shelves due to panic buying. Looks like I am housebound for a few days watching tv and getting really fed up with ads for over fifties life insurance and funeral plans.Very depressing, would much rather be on the cut, even though at the moment due to stoppages,I am limited to going as far as Sowerby Bridge one way and Dewsbury the other way. It's not important to me to actually get to places, but simply for the pleasure of cruising. Sorry to bore you all,but I am feeling quite pissed off! |

Posted - 30 Mar 2020 : 14:22:09 Before the lockdown, went to the boat to mke sure everything was ok for a long time. Disconnected the battery because I have a small (10W) solar panel fitted but no charge controller so although unlikely the battery won't be overcharged. As I was planning a cruise before the lockdown I stocked up with grub and Guinness so that needed bringing home. Fuel caused a bit of anxiety because I filled the tank (12ltr) and have a 20ltr jerrycan on a rack on the transom.Decided to leave it all onboard rather than storing it at home in the garage. The jerrycan is sealed so the contents shouldn't go off,and the tank has a breather in the filler cap led to outside the hull.I replaced this cap with the type with a screw down breather so hopefully the tank fuel won't go off. Lets hope that this emergency is soon over and we can go back to enjoying our boats. Everyone, keep safe. |

Posted - 23 Mar 2020 : 21:44:25 Well looks like no-one is going anywhere on their boats for a while now. I'm glad we went to the boat friday to make sure it was in a state that I was happy to walk away for 3 months, even gave the sternglands an extra tweak to reduce any dripping to a minimum and put a good dose of marine16 in the tanks to keep the bug at bay. Also got into go outdoors sunday to change my walking boots due to the sole separating so that was good timing, at least I have something to walk the dog in without having to get out my bike boots. At least the 'looking after elderly relatives' bit means I can take the bike out now and again as long as I don't have any symptoms, it's quite a nice ride to my mums and the roads will be nice and quiet.

Posted - 22 Mar 2020 : 23:40:17 Good luck Harold. Hope you're better soon. For future reference - before anyone had even heard of the virus, I started ballasting the cockpit of my boat with bottles of cider. I have a trapdoor in the floor. It makes Social Isolation even more of a joy. Get well soon, mate.

Posted - 20 Mar 2020 : 14:35:42 Bad luck Harold, Keep your chin up! yes, Iunderstand what you say about feeling relaxed and content simply sitting on your boat in the peace and quiet even though you are not chugging. Hope your knee settles down. Take care of yourself. |
