Posted - 10 Mar 2020 : 14:59:45 Even if I hadn't turned up when I did,the other moorers would have sorted it.They are a good lot.A couple of them even go on a daily litter pick and generally keep an eye on things. If a dog owner is seen not picking up after their pooch, they usually get a polite earful. Now to fit two new corner fenders. |

Posted - 03 Mar 2020 : 14:35:02 Came to my little Norman last week to put the heater on and generally potter as you do when the weather is too 'orrible to go for a cruise and was shocked to find it broadside across the cut and listing heavily.Thinking the stern line had broken (the bow line had held)I hauled her back in thinking she had taken on rainwater to find that the stern line was intact, but hanging from it was a hugh stone mooring block which was the cause of the list. There must have been some severe wind for a little boat to pull the block out of the canal wall.A large steel narrowboat moored next door had also drifted out across the cut,but this was due to not being properly secured. The mooring block broke the corner fender and caused some scratches but that apart the boat is ok. Was told by other moorers that there was a horrendous gust of wind about five minutes before I arrived, and that did the damage. |

If it was my boat I'd put it down to the 6 pints of egyptian creme stout I had earlier, to be fair I'd be glad it was just the hatch and not the whole sodding roof! I don't call it pharoes fart fodder for nowt!

Posted - 23 Feb 2020 : 21:00:04 Turns out the lil' 16 footer needs a bit more attention than I thought. Today I noticed the roof hatch cover on the deck rather than on the roof. One of the two brass latches has been destroyed by the wind. No idea when it happened but for now it is solved with some ugly but effective wood battens. I'll sort it properly when the weather is nicer.

Listen you two - I am NOT going on a hot date with either of you no matter how sweet you are. Anyway, I live far away now and I only ever had 3 Normans anyway - no big deal!
Plus I'm married to Arisa and it's a pound to a bent penny she is prettier than either of you and she cooks good too!
As for big balls - depends on your point of view, you'll have to ask said little wife, pics here:
She seems happy enough LOL.
But - If I can help I will but no kisses ok?
Finally living the dream!

Posted - 22 Feb 2020 : 23:20:00 Our Norman 55 is doing just fine but our lil' 16 footer is collecting rainwater through dodgy window seals. It can't sink because it's on a trailer on the drive but I sure would like some dry weather so I can sort out the leaks.
And for the day job I could really use some drier ground. All of our sites are like mini versions of Glastonbury at present.
Give it a few months and we'll all be complaining about the drought causing water restrictions... |

Posted - 22 Feb 2020 : 20:29:20 My boat was full of water today and it nearly sank again. I have a system where I can syphon it out so I managed to stop it sinking again. Before you are all wondering Its not my 32 that’s dry in the barn. Its the old speed boat on my lake I use to get to the island for maintenance and collect all the fishermen's tackle they have lost. |

Posted - 22 Feb 2020 : 13:24:12 We had the screens re-glazed a while back and got some rubber samples to see about doing the side ones, next visit there was loads of water in the cabin traced to the saloon windows so had to keep an eye on exactly where it was coming from, I think it was a sample of runner that had got into the drain on the side sliding window causing rain to run in. This time nice and dry and it's been through a lot of rain and high winds so all seems good with the screens. I always get a bit in the bottom of the engine bay from the stern glands as the bilge pump is not in the lowest place at rest or river speeds, it is when running at speed, as I don't have diesel and oil sloshing about it's not a big problem and my vax lives at the ferryhouse in 'Lazy breezes' shed. "Full of water" meant about 6 litres so not really full.

Posted - 22 Feb 2020 : 12:43:21 I have small everything and no norman, having a princess 30 with two big volvos kind of makes up for the small bits I recon, a bit like the classic 4x4 "knob extension" on the roads. And yes my boat IS still there and fine, a 180 mile round trip just to spend 5 mins there to make sure the canopy was still intact, the boat wasn't full of water, and the cleats were still attached, the ropes have left some good deep groves in the mooring posts though despite me always leaving good long springs to allow a good up/down range.

I'll find out this afternoon, not seen the boat in weeks due to the poxy weather, have new doggy so it's not fair to take her to the boat when it's going to bounce around all weekend in the wind, also the last few visits have had such high tides that we have not been able to take her for a good walk from the usual pub, we could get to the pub though! Most boaty forums go quiet this time of the year, roll on spring!
