By spider I take it you mean a grapnel type anchor, it may slow you if needed but unlikely to stop you if you have an engine problem along the way, I'd be tempted to pick up a cheap 8-10kg danforth if you can and a good length of chain (at least 5 metres) before rope and allow 5x depth on a running river like the trent to get a good hold. Good charts are the key to the tidal trent as there are some shallows to catch you out, I think the ripon motor boat club is still the best source for charts between naburn and cromwell. Is the Mach1 reference an old kawasaki 2 stroke thing or wishful thinking for a norman 23 on 20hp?
