YOU were the one that said somewhere you didn't do electrics or engines, I remember reading that.
I must admit I found it surprising because you are like me - pretty much do anything.
You don't like my stretched Norman design because T won't clean the windows? Look - I'm safely far enough away from her - I'll tell her if you like to get off her ass and go clean the ruddy windows?

Sneeeky??? Admiral Faffer is my usual name. nothing new there kida. Well was Captain Faffer but now i have multiple boats i got a promotion :)
Cone on Clive, you really think T will clean all them windows ha ha.
I can and have rewired boats in 12v and 240v. It stops at that as time to trace faults can take so long and hassle, i cant be bothered with some jobs like that. Also fix engines if asked, infact done a few water/fuel pumps etc, engine services etc etc. It just a matter if i havnt done then learn and do it ;);)

Stop Press!!! Malc's site is still up and running although I cannot see when any work was last done. I'm also not sure if Angelfire is a paid for or a free webhosting service. Knowing Malc. I would imagine its a free one!

Didn't Malc also have a Norman 18 called "Naiad"? I think he sold this and then embarked on the "Wud-E-Nuff" episode. He was well known in the greyhound rescue circle and had reams of web pages devoted to "Barney". Certainly a character as we demonstrate here by quite fondly recalling him. I had "contact" of a sort with Fuzzy when I, with huge help from Ian and Dave, resurrected this site after the host’s fecked it up for us.
Wayne, I'm truly delighted you have graced our pages with your presence and really look forward to seeing how your endeavours with the 32/42 go!

If it helps Malc had a whippet called Barney for a good while, that would be nearly 20 years ago so Barney will be long gone now, Malc could talk for england and face to face most would make an excuse to sneak off after a while, he moored near bardney for quite a while and last time I saw hime he was annoying lincoln boat club.

I am more a skilled engineer than driver as trevork said, well i infact i do have my three vocational Qualifications in Engineering.
Hey Clive , dont you know that boat building needs Engineering skills at times, structural/design/fabrication in the cradles that carry boat and trailers etc etc. Making rails etc. More to that lot than driving. Just a brain dead job. Shame i am old school an dnot press a load of buttons and away the machine goes.
Hye no worries kida on the problems of the boat coming home in all 6 boats i have had home never had a complaint....dam now i have said it lol. tempted fate now.

I know a Malc now and he has a 36` NB i think, up on the Rochdale canal at Todmordon., for some reason i reckon it is the same chap. He was on Canal World Forum but now on Thunderboat.
DCO was a good site and good banter. shame it went AWOL.

I remember Malc fondly, felt sorry for him too as he did come in for some stick and would then blow his top big time. Very emotional guy but boated for a shilling or less while the rest of us spent pounds.
Remember Fuzzy too - is he on here under a different name now?
You are correct about the Norman although it sank before Wayne got it up and we pumped it together and hauled it onto my trailer before dropping it in his garden. Wayne thought dredging operations had capsized it and in truth we couldn't find a problem with it.
I did some work on it, new joinery and electrics and mast and sold it on with a little 15hp engine that had seen better days. I couldn't spare much time for it, I was completing a complete Norman 18.5 rebuild from hull up and that had to be finished and moved on pdq because I had my wife coming back from Thailand later in the year.
I delivered it to the boatyard - Chertsey Meads Marine, and they picked it up and dropped it in with the crane and I though that was that until they phoned me up to say it was taking on water and they lifted it back out and chocked it up in the yard. The owner was a bit pissed but I honestly hadn't looked for damage and indeed there was none to be seen and Chertsey Meads boys couldn't see where the water was getting in either.
All any of us could see was a rusty stain or two in two places, one don the forefoot and one on the starboard chine up near the bow inside the berth locker. Outside the hull had been sprayed and looked good but I told the new owner if he bought the materials I would do the repairs for him as a goodwill gesture as I had sold it in all innocence and he had the opportunity to have it inspected beforehand. I told him he would have to do the prep work cutting away to see what was under the paint in the 2 suspect places.
Gave him a mini grinder and discs and left him to it. A panicky phone call the next day brought me back to see the damage - the boat had been in a serious collision and the damage repaired with filler only - not resin and glass - just filler and sanding. Hairline cracking opened up under water and it took on water.
Told the guy not to worry about the extent of the damage - I'd mould it back for him but first he had to cut away all the filler.
There was a 400mm long gash that had taken out the angle of the chine, and down the stem and forefoot from 150mm below the winch eye
extending right down almost to the little vee-berth bulkhead was a gash right through the hull over probably 700mm long and approx 20mm wide. Who ever repaired it did so cosmetically only, resprayed the boat and thought it would be fine. When is wasn't they abandoned it for Wayne to claim. He and I did a deal on it.
So I re-moulded the hull, Chertsey Meads surveyed the repairs during work and completion and told the owner that the hull was ok with a A1 class repair so although it cost him some paint and epoxy filler (I supplied resin and glass and moulding necessities) and a bit of labour he did have a good boat in the end.
The end of the story was he could not afford to pay the mooring fees
and my pals at Chertsey Meads told me he had sold it on as he could not afford boating.
So THAT is the truth of that boat. At the end of that repair week I flew out on honeymoon for a month to this place and heard all about the rest later on.
And Wayne from Radcliffe is still a bit of a nutcase but a nice one and a brave man for what he takes on. I admire him and seeing his work I'd recommend him.

Welcome to the dark side Wayne. (I'm also known as Snowbird30ds in case you hadn't sussed it)
Wud-e-nuff" was Malcs old wooden tub he had on the witham/fossdyke, that was the one with the dodgy engine mounts.
To be fair to Malc the boat was a pile of crud but he was getting to go boating for next to nothing and some of his 'fixes' were right on the border between insanity and sheer bloody genius, if my boating was as cheap as his I would be able to buy shoes two at a time instead of having to nick the left one from the display rack in the hope the right one would be sold off cheap.
I do recall the story of him being given a prop that he fitted by tying up in bardney lock and letting the water out so he could go under in a dinghy only to find it was opposite rotation and had to use reverse for the next year, I don't know how much of that was embellished but it does sound classic Malc.

Well i think he is an bit of a head case. I have known him for more years than anyone i know in the boating world and can say that he needs help;)
I am not sure Cliveshep has it fully right though about him in his comment, but he told me about a Norman boat that Clive bought and tried to flog it on as it was knackered and when he did it sank on the chap he sold it too lol.
I will let him know that your all thinking of what he is up to. Crazy fool he is......i know :)
I know he was on the DC forum but was never mad on them and he had a Creighton 26 that he was going to extend.

That sounds like Malc, the last time I saw him he was telling me he had to get a stiffer propshaft as the one he had let the engine move too far, and there was me thinking the engine mounts and bearers were supposed to do that and the shaft should just drive the prop.
That must have been summer 2009 so no idea how or where he is now.
