Currently refitting my Conquest , not yet come across a bilge pump. Any idea where I should look ? If there isn't one should I cut through the floor to fit one ? Floor is grp . Would I be correct in thinking making a hole in floor would allow access to lowest part of hull ? Don't really want to inadvertently scupper her !!!! |

And definitely don't worry about the automatic switch. The cheap ones often fail quickly. They just stick.
Even if they work it just means your boat sinks (with a flat battery) a couple of hours later than it would have done! |

For poodling around the rivers with an outboard I wouldn't worry too much about it especially if it's dry now, rain will take an age to cause a sinking even with a major canopy failure, how far away do you keep the boat and how often do you visit it?
Does it have any skin fittings on the underside of the hull as that can make the difference to the decision.
If no underwater fittings it will only take on large amounts of water if you hole the hull and then a bilge pump may well not keep up with the ingress, you are unlikely to hole it at river speeds as they are well laid up boats.

Is there water in the bottom of your boat? With a Conquest, if there is, its likely to be rainwater, always finds a way in. If you want to shift it without having to mop it out then, yes, a bilge pump would help. This needs to be sited at the lowest part of the hull with an outlet about 8 - 12 inches above the waterline usually on the transom but also other practical points in the hull. Rule do a good automatic switch that you "install" next to the pump itself at the lowest point.
