My boat's a Norman 23. Inboard of the opening where the transom and motor are, is a gap shaped like this \_/ with a good, wide lip all the way round.
I'd like to cover this with a single sheet of ply or suitable material. (To keep the weather out over the winter and also to keep the engine more "on the outside" of the cockpit when cruising). I will need to be able to remove this cover easily in order to start the engine. I was thinking of some way of allowing the covering board to slide up and down in runners. I was just wondering if anyone has found a better way to do this and might be able to tell me how they did it. Grateful for any advice/ideas as always. I'm adding 2 photos to help show where the cover needs to go.

Thank you both. Between you you've cleared up my thoughts and improved on my own ideas as to how I might do it - sealing as well as fitting. I'll try to remember to post a photo when it's done.

Why mess around with sliders when 2 screws each side would do just fine? Dzus fasteners would be good for the job.
If you go with the sliders idea you can get U channel aluminium from b&q fit it all round and it only needs something to hold it down in the vee to secure it, a bit of draught excluder strip in the channel would seal it.
