Well, brothers and sisters, I can speak on more equal terms, now, because this afternoon I bought a lovely Norman 23. Although I'm now an owner, I'm still a newbie, too, so I'll be asking quite a few questions. Lots of time for them, though. My first task is to get the boat from where it is now, to where I want it to be. but there is no immediate rush to get this done. |

That looks very tidy indeed Tom.
One thing I'd change is the lock on the door, it looks far too strong to be on nice woodwork, anyone wanting in will probably cause more damage to the door and bulkhead than what they take, I always recon a token gesture is a better choice to deter the half ar5ed opportunist but give way to the determined as it's less hassle in the long run.(this is coming from someone that keeps the ignition keys safely in the ignitions all the time  )
Where is the mooring? It looks a great spot!

Thanks for the advice on posting photos, trevork and df. Now, if this works, here are some photos of my boat, which I paid for today, so she's all mine! Just finishing touches required to complete a very thorough refurbishment.

Flickr works ok but their embeded code chucks in some junk that messes up the layout on this forum, the steps I use are:
Upload your pics to a flickr account.
Click on the piccie you want to post and it opens in a new window.
In the bottom right of the window there is a right facing arrow (share), click it.
Click the BBcode tab in the window that pops up.
Select the size you want it to appear (huge pics are a pain on the page)in the box below the generated link.
Right click on the generated link and select copy.
Paste it into this site and your piccie will appear.
Now for the tidy up...
In the long link that will appear on this site click just before the (img) tag and backspace to get rid of the extra junk from the link.
Now click just after the (/img)tag and get rid of everything after it.
((img) tags are in square brackets and the bits in between is the location of the image)
Hit preview and should come up ok, leave a spare line between piccies if doing multiples and it's much easier to do and easier to view.

Either email me the photos Tom and I'll put them up or they need to already be on the internet. A site such as flickr will do. You then click the "insert image" button then copy and paste the web addy of the picture between the two "Img"'s. Clear as mud I know, maybe someone can better explain! |

I think I'll be staying with the Norman for as long as I can keep it afloat and climb onto it. I dreamed of a narrowboat for decades and then common sense kicked in. The Norman's a lovely boat and perfectly suited to the kind of boating I want to do - which is, days out cruising the canal with family and especially grandchildren and, for my wife and me, the occasional weekend getaway. Longer than that - OK, whenever I can as age and family commitments allow and see where it leads. I've waited a long time for this boat and I was lucky to get it.
If I knew how to post photos, I would!

Or the flappy things, apparently some folk know how to work them and use much less diesel.

Thanks, Philihun. It's taken me a while to get a boat but that's because I've spent a very long time reading up on the subject and asking questions. Given age and family commitments, I want a boat for weekends, days out with grandchildren, with maybe the occasional longer adventures in the summer - that kind of thing - and see where it leads. The name "Norman" came up again and again when asking about suitable boats. I'm very happy today, now that I have one, and I think it's great that there's such an active, enthusiastic group as this one. I'm new to the group, and I hope people will forgive me if I make any newbie errors in my posts.
