Posted - 21 Aug 2018 : 21:42:07 Due to illness have set about resurrection of our Atlanta 24,am really looking forward to getting out on the water again. Have prepared her for BSC and happily she passed yesterday,however the reason for this post is issues with the engine. 1991 model Honda bf15.Have had,including lifting off and return. Full service,inc impeller, oil,plugs,filters etc. New fuel tank,line,bulb,Honda fittings. New rudder. New genuine Honda cdi,(knew this was needed) All done by Honda certified engineers. Whilst expensive, thought it would have been more! So fellow Normanistas how much?

Posted - 02 Sep 2018 : 19:26:33 There are quite a few chinese ignition systems very like honda even down to the wiring colours for bikes, the cdi's rattle if shook, genuine honda was a good plan.

Posted - 02 Sep 2018 : 19:06:48 Aye ours,used to respond to a squeeze or unplugging and re plugging,however it finally expired.There was an after market one available on t'interweb for £120 but you don't know if it will work,or if it does how long it would last,so even though expensive it was replaced as part of a wider service by Honda mechanics and is thus warrantied.Also outside of any warranty there is a principle of "quality implied by price" this applies to all goods from a sofa to telly,whatever.(Once had a sofa re upholstered after 5yr g'tee had expired using this principle). Happily have been out sailing again out for three days with grandkids,Wonderful time was had by all#128522;

Posted - 30 Aug 2018 : 12:42:51 The CDI on my 1990 Honda 9.9 became faulty, the engine cutting out, tapping the unit with a screwdriver handle usually got it going again. Apparently it’s poor internal connections. Cheaper non Honda units are available but I decided to go for the genuine item. They are very expensive, but I found that buying it from America reduced the cost considerably even with the carriage and import tax. My engine has run for1665 hours according to the counter and apart from service costs this has been the only major part I have had to replace.

Posted - 23 Aug 2018 : 07:41:39 That's not bad when you include a cdi, people see labour as 1 hour of someones time instead of years of experience and training, I expect the floor swept cheaply but don't want the same person pulling my engine apart....

Posted - 23 Aug 2018 : 00:07:02 I did say it was expensive,and at £500 it was but with the cdi at an eye watering £277 I thought the overall cost was decent.

That is a very rare feeling Ray, not one that I have had the luxury of experiencing. Mine are usually announcements that follow a sharp intake of breath! I'm sure others will recognise this scenario! |

Posted - 22 Aug 2018 : 06:21:08 Normally an arm, a leg, and possibly a kidney?
Did you get a bargain then (a bargain is where you can still walk away carrying two bags of shopping!)
On a more serious note and assuming the carburettor is squeaky clean and nothing else breaks you should be ok to finish the season trouble free.
Go for it and enjoy!

Finally living the dream!
