Hello All,

I may be going on a very long canal journey this coming September, but can anyone give me an indication of what my petrol consumption might be with a Mariner 15 hp outboard? I have a Norman 22, the motor has been recently serviced, and being on the cut, I'll never go faster than 3 to 4 miles an hour.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Sal

So a total calculation of 1.5 ltr per hour would be a good guide. In fact, I got something similar on the canal forum, thanks!

Anyway, if all goes according to plan, we'll be moving our boat from Sawley along the Trent and Mersey, then down towards Wolverhampton where we'll pick up the Shroppie. We'll then go to the Llangollen, turning south onto the Monty and finishing off at Maesbury where we should be mooring the 'ole girl! We know it'll be awkward getting petrol along the cut, but we've got to move the boat this September, and the journey will be fun (and it will be closer to our home in Wales)!

Ahh.., so that's around a litre to an hour. That's not bad (I think?).

Thanks!

I have a Honda 15 on a Norman 27, and at that speed would be looking at around 4 hrs to the gallon overall. Remember sometimes you feel you are floating along on tick- over, next it's like treacle. Err on the side of caution.
